New member from Germany -hello to all
Hello everybody,
Today I joined this forum in order to learn from or to contribute something to others. My name is Juergen, I am a retired chemist and I am located in the neighborhood of the beautiful city of Bremen, Germany. I always liked the Jaguar brand, but never had owned one before. Post retirement in 2021, I started to look for some nice car and coincidentally found an X-Type 2.5 V6 AWD Estate (station wagon, don't know if there are any in the U.S.) of 2008, but with only 114,000 km (70,800 miles) and a nearly complete service history. The color is "Midnight", which is a metallic black with a trace of dark blue. I would prefer a dark green metallic, but those are very hard to find, especially the Estate version.
A complete service was provided by our local Jaguar dealer and, yes, there have been some issues, such as one of the keys not functioning properly (I then soldered 2 new micro switches, now it is OK), slight engine oil pan leakage and very minor rear differential leakage. Unfortunately, the repair shop somehow damaged the transfer box, but ordered and installed a new one. Now, after 7 weeks at the repair shop, everything is normal, except - yesterday the MIL went on. I don't hope that it will be something serious, awaiting OBD-II readout. I charged the car battery overnight, maybe the low temperatures had caused a malfunction.
All that sounds a bit negative, but I am optimistic and I like my X-Type a lot.

Welcome to the forums Juergen,
Good to have you with us.
With the car sitting in the repair shop for seven weeks, a partially discharged battery is the most likely cause of the MIL. You will be very unlucky if it is anything more serious.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Thank you for your warm welcome, I really appreciate it. I already read the guidance for new members and I am fine with it. As the X-Type cars become more and more rare, a global exchange of experiences and advice is a very good thing (of course, we also have a very good German forum, too).
All the best to you and all members

And, congratulations on your successful key repair.
