Default New member looking too get back into a Jaguar

Hello all:

New member here.

I'm thinking about buying a used car just for occasional weekend driving, dates and events. I'm in Virginia, USA and have a British family heritage so I'm partial to a British car. I'm retiring next year and will have more time for this sort of thing.

I used to have an 1988 XJ6 (XJ40) in the late 90s as a second car and loved it and my boss at the time had a new black XJR. I loved driving his car. I'm mostly a Ford and Chevy truck guy and have a 96 Thunderbird project I need to finish and get rid of.

Being a diesel engine guy I really appreciate low end torque and mulch prefer the idea of a supercharger over anything else.

I was thinking about a used XJ or XJR but then started looking at some XKR and even F Type and F Type R listings as well, although the F Type is perhaps too extreme for me.

I don't mind a bit of a project but not too much for now. I'd be open to some mods.

I probably want to limit my spend to $25-30k

I'd also want the ability to have a great manual shift auto or a full manual. Must be a V8.

Any suggestion of what my options are?

Welcome to the forums Fred,

(I've removed your duplicate posting of this thread)

The choice of two door or four door is a fundamental decision for a start. Two door is XK or F-Type. All XK have the V8 but it was a rarer choice for F-Type buyers. Four door with a V8 will be X308, X350 or X351 - all confusingly badged as XJ.

You'll recall Jaguar were getting into electronics with the XJ40 and this has become increasingly more complex in subsequent years. A laptop is usually more useful than a set of wrenches for troubleshootng and fixing issues with newer models.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started on the forums.

Enjoy the forums and good luck in the search for your next Jaguar.

Graham
