New Member - X-Type 2.1 V6 Auto Saloon - NZ
Hi to Everyone,
Just bought my first Jaguar, a 2005 X-Type 2.1 V6 at auction a few weeks ago, aiming to have it be my daily driver hopefully for the next few years.
123,000 Km imported into NZ from Japan in 2017.
Pretty clean straight vehicle, good paint (Platinum Silver) and tidy interior (SEL).
Under the bonnet is original, not dressed up for sale so could somewhat gauge level of service it has had.
I knew it had AC issues and fully expect it to have some other underlying glitches that she will no doubt tell me in due course - I am a total realist as I have a Austin A60 Cambridge and had until fairly recently a 1978 three door Range Rover, so no stranger and enjoy bringing a car back to road-worthiness.
Worked out prior to purchase it was likely a bad AC relay not pulling the clutch in properly. - new relay sorted that problem on day 2!
Fitted some new plugs and checked coils for any issues as it had some error codes in history - unknown when they occurred but citing some niggles in rear bank (1, 3 & 5). Thanks to my friendly mechanic at the testing station who kindly plugged in his reader in and wrote down the codes it had so I could research them. Cleared the list so we can see what reoccurs in the coming months.
Cleaned air mass sensor and throttle body as both were filthy. Going to do all filters even though it has a current service sticker as I don't trust the level of work done as air filter has been reused over and over by the looks of it, so just want to get it reset to a known level to service so I can maintain.
Taking intake manifold off was hampered by two spinning brass threaded inserts in the plastic plenum assembly, but dressed knurling up and added some texture to plastic receiver sockets with my Dremmell allowed some high temp epoxy good keying to successfully reinsert those again hopefully.
Suspension a bit noisy, so new sway bar bushings inbound - rear looks easy but reading this forum I anticipate I am in for a descent fight to do the front ones.
While checking the suspension knocking I could see the jounce bump stops were good probably 5 years ago but shot now, so those are ordered now too.
Pulled into the petrol station with 1/8th of a tank showing and filled her up......came out on empty
, so guess I have a tank to drop to fix the sender unit now as well........are you rolling on the floor with laughter yet!
Discovered the rear window heater needs attention, as element must have multiple breaches to be located and repaired.
Also noticed the radio has lost back lighting, so that will be pulled out shortly to check drivers and grain of wheat bulbs.
Don't get me wrong....I am really enjoying driving the car and love the experience ...it is a really nice place to be.
Having been cut out from my center punched SantaFe 5 years ago (5 star ANCAP rated in 2002) when I was hit directly in the B pillar by a speeding, unlicensed 18 year old driver in a stolen car doing well over 100Km/h in a 50Km/h retail zone, I have promised my wife that I will have decent safety systems embedded around me for daily commuting.
Well, that is a run down of my first 3 weeks of getting to know this car.
I have learned plenty so far from this forum and no doubt as other quirks pop up I will be possibly sending some distress flares up to see if someone can shed any light on them.
Signing off for now, but hope to be able to contribute to the forum as well as draw down on the wealth of knowledge here.
P.S. My background is in electronics but I have a very mechanical mind, so if it rolls, spins or flys and is powered by petrol, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, wind or solar I will have a crack at it!

Hi Graham,
Thank you for the warm welcome and sorry for falling into the trap of using an emoji in the title.
I had taken the time to read all the newbie info thoroughly before posting, but as my post writing was being interrupted by life several times I had a memory lapse and got suckered in by the option of adding a smiley face.........rookie mistake I know ;-)
