New and Needing a Replacement for my XJ6
Hi All:
Coming up on 55 years of building mostly European cars. Started on Triumph TR10's a mostly unknown car that would break down every 75 miles! Owned nearly every Volvo and Saab type up to the 90's. I helped write the ASE certifications and am a Master Automotive Machinist. I guess I should be retired but am still in the thick of it with a recent addiction to diesel engines running on peanut oil--SUPERB!---but now I must replace my last car and am convinced I need a Jag. I love the 1995-1997 series XJ6 but the the one I owned was a British 3.2 model with no aircon or nav or rain sensing wipers etc and it was so troublefree for 100K that I am not sure I could find another one like it. And I am concerned about the US 4.0 spec that they may have problems mine didn't, so I am looking at a 2004-2008 XJ8.
Would to hear any feedback from anyone on anything!
I live in central Texas,
Best,
labans

Hi and welcome!
Hiya,
I too am new and looking into an XJ8, and I used to live in central Texas too.
Since being here I have discovered an appreciation for the S type, esp. mechanically. So I am broadening my knowledge of the brand, which this forum perfectly facilitates and encourages.
Have fun and read, there are many, many enthusiastic and helpful, knowledgeable people here.
With your skill set, you will fit right in.

Hello, labans,
I have limited experience with Jaguar, Nix being my first one (which I hope drives me around for the next 100,000 miles).
If you're interested in the XK8, someone will be along shortly to direct you to that section, where you can look around, ask questions, and generally get a feeling for the car.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum labans,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I had a very reliable 1996 X300 3.2 and only changed it after 150k miles for something different - a 2001 X308. No reason to think a US spec X300 would be any less reliable than a UK one. The aluminium bodied X350 (2003 - 2009) is a totally different model having little in common with its predecessors.
Follow this link XJ XJ6 / XJ8 / XJR ( X350 & X358 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Enjoy the forums.
