Question New owner of a 1987 XJ6 Vanden Plas

Greetings to all Jag-u-ar lovers!

I'm a new proud owner of a 1987 XJ6 Vanden Plas. Besides very few cosmetic issues, need of an alignment, and reseting the radio code (which I have but the system still isn't unlocking), the Jag is in excellent condition considering the age. I am truly enjoying this experience.

The Vanden Plas is my second Jaguar. Late last year, I purchased a bright red 1976 XJ6 Series II. Unfortunately, I lost it due to a fire, which took some time to get over. After months of patiently finding the right Jaguar for me, I can across this gem. I plan to recondition the interior, engine, and slowly restore it back to pristine condition. The previous owner kept well organized maintenance records and even included a few extras. Listed below are a few items that I would like feedback on or other suggestions for best performance:

1. Crossland Oil Filer #2160
2. Unipark spark plugs
3. Duralast thermostat

After a tune-up and oil change, I plan to upgrade the air filer to the K&N #E-2350, which I've read great reviews on.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!!

Great choice, great car. :-) Built like a tank, drives like velvet

Can't comment on the filter from experience. Crossland is know to be good though.

I prefer Champion RN12YC plug in the old 4.2

You should get a Jaguar specific thermostat with the steam relief hole...or drill a hole in a standard thermo.

I sed a K&N in mine and really didn't notice any difference. Maybe a small power increase over 4000 rpm. No fuel economy improvement. Not worth the money, IMHO, but it does have the advantage of being the last air filter you'll ever buy

Cheers
DD

Many thanks Doug

I will be sure to talk to my mechanic about your tip for the thermostat. I may just go with the Jaguar specific just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again!
