Default New owner of an old Jag

Introducing myself: I just joined the forum after buying a 2003 X Type (71000 miles). I had wanted a Jaguar for some time but didn't have any money and couldn't justify replacing my trusty, reliable but sedate Volvo.

I checked out a couple of S Types last year but was deterred by electrical problems that they had. After deciding that my dream of having a Jag was some years away, I noticed a nice X Type at a local garage which I could just about afford and my wife convinced me to take a leap of faith.

So far so good - it's a delight to drive. So smooth, so satisfying. A completely different motoring experience. The previous owner was obviously a smoker so I am trying to rid the car of the lingering odour.

Looking through the old bills, it looks like the lambda sensor has been replaced a couple of times in recent years and the reverse parking aid sensor seems to be faulty (I can reverse fine without it).

Hopefully these aren't signs of serious problems and things will continue to run smoothly.....

Welcome, just signed up myself but it doesn't hurt to welcome others.

The X-type is not very much loved in Europe, most of the cars sold are diesels out here. Electrical gremlins are things you probably have to live with but it doesn't make the driving experience any less. Just a little annoying every now and then.

I can't see any serious problems coming from this, on the other hand I think it's very brave to go for an X-type in the positive way.

Thanks - I keep telling myself that my wife's VW Golf that she had from new kept flashing up engine failure and airbag warning lights. It was just the sensors so she ignored the warning lights and it drove beautifully until our son wrote the car off.

To many sensors and controls are installed in the cars nowadays, in the past things went wrong as well but we were not bothered by some dash light coming on.
