Red face New owner of an old Jag

Hey,

Name is Mick, you can call me Meta. Just purchased a 1982 XJS HE Here in Kansas City, Missouri. Picked it up pretty cheap due to an issue it was havin. Needless to say, when I saw it online for sale, I fell in love with her. Only problem so far that I have found is that she starts and has a rough idle and wants to die all the time. Sometimes she will idle for a little while. I did notice that the drivers side air intake box has a strong suction and the passenger side can barely hold a piece of paper over the intake hole and can hear what sounds to be an exhaust leak under the passenger floorboard. The car sat for a couple of years and the gas tank was removed and cleaned out with a new fuel pump added. The previous owner said he had a guy do a tune up a year ago but the rough idle almost sound like they messed up the firing order. That and the passenger side air intake havin hardly any air movement is where I am at now. Anyway, I have my babeh and here to join the Jags club lol. Any insight would be appreciated. See ya around the forums.

I also seem to have something missing on the top of the engine. There are 2 blue connectors towards the front of the distributer. One sip-tied on each fuel rail. No idea what they are for.

Welcome to the forum Meta,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Midwest Region forum by following this link US Midwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome.

I will catch you in the XJ-S section.

Meantime, that air filter suction difference is NORMAL, so dont try to fix what aint broken.

More isses obviously, and that will wait for later.

Thanks Jim, glad to be here. As for the download area for my XJS, the links seem to be broken and do not work.
