Default New USA Jag XK8 owner

Hi All

It seems an amazing effort on behalf of everyone helping new owners out! I am pleased to now have an XK8 convertible, manufactured in December 1996. US 1997 model, I have never owned a Jaguar before, its going to be a weekend fun car here in San Antonio, Texas. I will need all the help I can get to understand my 'cat'! First up it looks like my solitary key is a non transponder model key, does anyone know where I can get one and get it cut here in San Antonio?

Also any ideas for an independent garage?

thanks for the welcome everyone, btw I just ordered a second key from Triple-C Motor accessories I just spoke with the owner an expat Brit like myself and he helped me decode the Tibbe. I will let you know if I am successful, its a not transponder model so kind of easier I guess.

On another note does anyone know how to obtain the correct alarm and remote locking Fob ? I had a quick look but it seems there are many variations on the LJA/LJE slm code does it matter?

YES - it does.

If you already have one remote, you need to get an identical match to the LJAxxxxYY code on the back of the fob case. If you don't have a remote, it gets a little more difficult.

First essential is US vehicles operate on 315mhz and European operate on 433mhz so you need to source one from the correct market. The two part numbers for the early XK8/XKR 315mhz remotes are:

LJA2610CA - low sensitivity
LJA2610AA - standard sensitivity

US members in XK8/XKR forum will be able to help with the reason for low and standard which we don't have in Europe. Best source for used ones is usually ebay and you can DIY program them to the vehicle.
