Newly owned by an XJS
Hi,
I have recently inherited a '93 XJS convertible, 4.0L 6 cyl. burgundy (although I'm not certain that is the actual name of the color) with less than 34,000 miles on it. It has been well cared for, always garaged and covered, and in excellent condition. It looks new in most respects. And, as hard to believe as it may be, everything seems to be functional! Really!
It has been many years since I have been owned by a British sporty car, the last time being in the late '60s-early 70's. That was a very nice '63 MGB, white, convertible, wire wheels with knock-off hubs.
Prior to driving the XJS for first time after trailering it home, I did a full day of wash, clay rub, machine polish, and wax. It looks gorgeous! There are only a few very tiny defects externally or internally.
It took a few short drives to start feeling physically comfortable in the car, but now if feels very good. It's a very smooth, comfortable riding car. There are a few rattles when hitting moderate bumps in the road, and I'll try to track those down and eliminate them.
Ohh, that exhaust note is truly fine! What a joy to listen to and feel. Just loud enough to hear, feel, and enjoy, but never loud enough to be intrusive or obnoxious to others. It's purrfect.
Pictures to follow.
Thanks,
Greg

Welcome to the forum Greg,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you have already found your way to the XJS tech section so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link USA Northwest - Washington/Oregon/Idaho & SW Canadians - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Hi ElinorB,
My quandary is keeping the car and giving up shop space. I have a 4+ car garage, and 2+ space is currently taken up with shop and storage. I could make a storage shed outside for a lot of that stuff. Then, potentially it would work keeping the car.
But there are some logistics problems with that. The 2+ area is linear in shape, one car wide and 2+ cars deep. The end near the garage door is where I currently have the shop, and the rear area is storage. I would have to reverse that layout, but the lighting and electrical power is all at the front end. It would take some significant electrical work to make it feasible.
I don't want to store the car outside, nor my daily drive vehicles. And I will not be driving the XJS from about late October through March because we have rainy/snowy winters here in N. Idaho.
My initial plan was to polish it up, detail it, and then put it up for sale. But I made the big mistake of driving it. LOL.
All the best,
Greg

Hi Norri,
Thanks for the info. I think I have my signature setup now with the help from Graham above. And I'll get my garage set up after the 3 day anti-troll period.
Thanks,
Greg

Welcome Greg!
I feel for your quandary, but hope you quickly fall in love with your Jag! She is more than capable of sinking some serious claws into your heart... Very few machines posses a soul, but I think you will find she is one of those rare breeds!
Best of luck on your decision!

Welcome to the REAL world.
You DROVE it, HAHAHAHA, now you are hooked, trust me. The XJ-S is like that, followed by Jaguar in general.
We were once at 8 Jags, NO IDEA how that happened. Now down to 3, and serious withdrawals for the XJ-S's is still real.
Keep the car, move the stuff, change the lighting or whatever, it will all work out.

All,
Thanks for the great welcome you have all extended to me!
My next challenge it to get my wife comfortable riding in it. She feels vulnerable because the car is so small and low compared to what she is used to driving (mini-van), and compared to most other vehicles on the road.
I felt the same way at first (I drive a Nissan Titan), and still do a little. But I'm very good at defensive driving (habits developed by driving a motorcycle for a few years, and surviving). I think she will come around after a couple of nice country drives.
One item I'm still a little concerned about is the possibility of a roll over. So I'm off to the tech forums to see what others might have done about installing a roll bar. If it is possible to fit one, I think it could be covered with a nice stitched leather cover to match the upholstery, and would look good.
Thanks again to all,
Greg
