I was born in England in 1949 so was just starting university when they made the last MkII. An uncle had one and passengering in it was a dream. Later a cousin had a big old Mk 10 (I think) that I just hated. At one of first jobs the company secretary collected E-types and had seven! If he still has them now he is rich.
I lived in England until i was 34 but I never had a Jag-U-ar. I was an MG man with a whole series of B's. I had one MGB in the US but when I became Americanized, always being a builder or a farmer type, I had pick-ups. Still got two land Cruisers, a 97 and a 2004, and I do a lot of remote camping and off-roading. Also had CJ5 that was fun and a half.
My excuse for buying a 2004 XK8 was for the wife, she had a Mazda-speed MX5 and said it's too small and she is not a fan of the 6-speed. But being English (She is from LA) I think morally it's mine.
We live in an old succulent nursery that was derelict when we bough from a bank, and restoring it is our daily task. We have an open valley to the sea and can be at the beach in 20 mins so its nice to have car like the XK where there is room for both of us and a grand child to drive the PCH with the wind in our hair.
The car has still got a few teething problems. Been using over tire types, have a leaking oil cooler hose (who doesn't) and the pan gasket looks shot through bolts too tight, but body and interior looks newish and that the way it should be. You can plug oil leaks but new wood on the facia is just not on.
the cat is grey with black interior and black top. Has 19" Apollos, SatNav and HID lights and blue tooth voice recognition but my phone doesn't. I'm like second owner at 85,000 miles. Car lived on the Sunset Strip till I brought her south to Bonsall.
