Default STR electrical issues

Hi to you all.
just joined today and posting for the first time. Been an S-Type 4.0 V8 owner for eight years and last week purchased an STR 2002 as my second Jaguar.

Collected the STR last Sunday and drives very nicely. Was delighted with it and happy with the purchase. However on getting back into Ipswich and taking my foot off the throttle the car went into limp mode. Car displayed in the info bar, Parking brake fault, DSC not available and Engine systems error.

Finally after limping home I also noticed some electrical issues, no dash or console lights, central locking not responding to fob and seat, wheel and pedals not going to memory position when inserting the ignition key.

Went to my local technician and he plugged her in and it showed various codes but likely pointing to a TPS sensor playing up. Three codes would not erase and car was stuck in limp mode. I then decided to do the hard reset when I got home which then allowed the car to run normally again and it still is now.

However I have also seen other electrical issues which now include: Auto seat, steering wheel, pedal not selecting memory position on key insertion, dash and console lights out (radio centre info bar, heater info parking brake illumination all fine) central locking not working on fob ( Fine on the key and have changed battery in fob) heated front screen not working, Headlights pointing down (Assume no power to self levelling motors on HID headlights)

I am wondering if anyone out there could make a connection with these faults and help me with some advice please?

The car has been stood up for some months and only covered 1,200 miles in the last two years. I know gremlins can cause issues when a car stands up but to me it appears somewhere a relay or module is causing the electrics to play up.

As I say she runs a treat with no hesitation from either the engine or gearbox.

Many thanks everyone in advance

Welcome to the forum Suffolk Jag,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

One word - BATTERY. A partially discharged or failing battery often causes many weird electrical faults. Check it and, if necessary change it before any further troubleshooting.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/

Enjoy the forums.

Many thanks for the advice Graham,

I have already checked the battery and it's showing 12v when I put my test meter on it.

I did read that if a battery is showing around 11.2v it can cause may electrical problems.

Regards

patrick

Welcome.

As Graham has mentioned, BATTERY.

12v is too low. Should be 12.4+ on a fully charged and holding charge battery.

Good luck.

Hi Graham
Replaced the battery today with a Yuasa 019 100Ah 900A. Same faults still there but a new battery is always a good starting point anyhow.
Guess it's time to get her up to my independent Jag specialist for a look over
