A year ago I bought a used 2001 XJ8 with 200,000 miles on it. I paid $1. It wasn't in running condition but all problems were easily solved through a medium-sized investment (financed thru sale of another car) with the mechanic that had serviced the car its entire life. The car had been very well maintained - the owner had hit hard times and couldn't afford upkeep (and had another newer vehicle that became primary). The engine is in great shape and mechanic suggested it might have another 100k miles in it. Body and interior in great shape as well. Car has been a dream to own and to drive. I will likely drop a new engine in it when this one goes. As expected, the old car has an intermittent stream of minor ailments and I love this forum as a source for ideas and advice.

$1? I hope he gave you payment options. 200K miles and still a dream to drive is testimony to just how good Jags are. Some day the stigma of the earlier years of non reliability must be forgotten. Another bonus is fuel economy.
