XK8 In France
Hi. Im an english guy living in rural france. The 'rural' bit is very important, as in the future, when someone suggests hiring or borrowing some special tooling, you'll know why I laugh. Tractor parts, I can get, specialist Jaguar tools, no way.
I have previously owned an XJ6 series 1 Daimler, which was my 3rd car, at 19 years of age. I later owned a 420G, but never got it on the road due to storage problems.
3 Years ago, I was looking for another classic 60's car to buy, but I found locally a UK spec and registered XJ8. It turned out to be one of the most trouble free cars I have been lucky enough to own.
Much to the disappointment of my wife and daughters, I sold it recently to find a good early XK8.
Unfortunately, I bought an old dog after returning to the uk, and travelling half the country by train to see this wonderful car. I knew I should have walked away, but.......I didnt.
Some of the bad bits didnt turn out to be too bad, BUT, I found that the unscrupulous dealer had cleaned the air box, changed oil, new air filter, which disguised blowby problems.
So, you will be hearing from me Im sure as I tackle this, and other problems.
Now theres a fight to get some money out of the guy, not easy from another country.
However, it drives beautifully, and is a 1998 coupe, in sapphire blue with xkr wheels. When she is clean, ill take some photos and post them, cos she still is a beauty, problems aside. Im sure Ill enjoy her anyway.

Welcome to the forum Paul,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Having just driven home from rural France yesterday, I'll be spending most of next weekend washing a large part of it off my XK!
There's not too much need for specialist Jaguar tools for the XK8/XKR but a good scantool is going to be an essential.
I can see you've already found the XK8/XKR tech section so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the Europe Region forum by following this link Europe - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in mainland Europe region.
Enjoy the forums.

Welcome to the forum Paul, your post made me laugh. I too live in a rural area, just in Canada. The nearest Jaguar dealer is a 7 hour drive in another country (US). However I have three tractor dealers within a half hour. Do you know how hard it is to keep a Jaguar clean when you live on a dirt road? Good luck with the project.
Thanks for all the welcomes.
It has indeed been an adventure, learning a new language at 40 years old is always going to be an adventure.
Yes, dirt roads and clean cars dont mix. Sadly, with farmers all around me, its more to do with cows than mud.
Beats driving through the streets of London though.
