Aftermarket warranty for 2000 S-type
Hey everyone, so I am interested in buying a used 2000 s-type 4.0 v-8. It is from an owner and has 108,000 miles. I have no idea whatsoever about cars and have always wanted a Jag, so I wanted to get your help!
I know there are aftermarket warranties for cars and I was wondering if there was certain guidelines such as a certain year and mileage max. I would like to purchase a 2 year coverage for a 2000 s-type v-8 with 108,000. It drives great, has clean title, and new tires/brakes as well as oil changes every 3k.
The car seems great and at a great price but I want to make sure an aftermarket warranty is possible beforehand!
Thanks.

Please don't take this the wrong way...Can you afford a little more for a 2003 4.2 V8? Warranty for 2000 may not be there. The 2003-on were the best and the 4.2 was much more durable and stronger. Otherwise, call warranty companies and check on what they have to offer. Def. will be more costly with the year and mileage.
What do you guys think? The owner is getting rid of it because he's moving and he will take 4000. It's had all of its service on time and I had a mechanic check it out. It's also in grey condition inside and out. Even if I found a warranty to be 2000 to 2500, would it still be worth it? I'm just looking for it to last me my last 2 years in college.
The 2000 model year 4.0 V8s had a number of problems that to my mind make them not worth the trouble.
1. Cam chain tensioners and the water pump had serious problems. Unless the engine had the later design tensioners and water pump don't even consider it.
2. Some of the early models had problems with the nikaseal liners. If I recall, engines with a build date of Aug or earlier were subject to this.
3. The suspension on the early models were problematic as well.
IMHO the warranty may be nearly as costly as the car itself. I would also recommend 03 4.2 V8 or later. The body was mildly redesigned in 2005 and by that time the S-Type was fairly well developed. I personally think you'll be happier with the later models.

Thanks! I may hold off and save up. I have found a 2004 x type 3.0 with 80,000 miles but for $8000. Any experience with those and is that a good deal?

Stay away from the pre-05 X-Types! I had an 02 3.0 that I wished never happened. The pre-05 had a very weak transfer case (all wheel drive). Been there done that. Stick with the 03-on S-Type or XJ.

Not picking on you, but again I find the concept of penniless, starving school or university student combined with an aging high end but 'bargain priced' luxury car a bit of a recipe for disaster.

I'm definitely not penniless or starving, I just have a certain amount I want to spend on a car and I saw the jaguar ad, which is why I came to this forum to see if it is worth it and what to expect...that's all.
