Another strange problem RESOLVED
We were going to a restaurant on Mondy evening. I was going about 50 mph. Suddenly the engine started to rev up display indicated engine failure and braking system failure. We let the car set for abou a 1/2 hour tried to restart and it worked fine. This morning I started the car and headed toward work same problem, engine runs at high rpm and braking system failed. I haven't had a chance to pull codes but I suspect computer issue.
Agreed with post #3. How old is the battery? Are the battery connections corroded? There is a main battery terminal located behind the front curbside inner wheel as well.
Again car details????

went home at lunch and pulled a p1229 code from the odb reader.
So I removed the throttle body assembly and found a small piece of plastic broken off the air filter housing stuck in the butterfly. Cleaned throtle body and reassembled, works great.

Did someone break off the small plastic piece of the air box by trying to open it without removing it from its mount? These air boxes tend to get cracked when inexperienced techs (or owners) attempt to pry open the lid before unscrewing the box and lifting it away from the engine bay. And with a crack in the air box, the MAF sensor doesn't like it and begins to throw codes....

That's what it looks like Jon, the previous owner may have tried to removed the air box lid without properly releasing the clamps and getting lid in proper position to open.
Good to find the problem but now you need to find where that piece broke off.
You might be getting an air leak and don't know it yet. Plus what other damage was done when the great mechanic broke something and then did not tell you about it!
On my STR I always remove the entire air box before attempting to get the air filter out. Just so much easier.
