While driving my S-Type, I am noticing message "Autolamp Delay 2:00" randomly appearing on the message centre display. I don't think I am doing anything that should make that message appear. And it is always "2:00", I have never seen any other possible autolamp delay setting displayed there

Now, I expect "Autolamp Delay X:XX" message only to appear when I turn the headlight switch (bezel) into one of the "Auto" positions. But I get nothing when I do that - no indication of activated auto-lamp mode at all

Yet auto-lamp and auto-lamp delay seem to be working - lights come on when it gets dark and go off when it gets light. And light stays on after I leave the vehicle for 2 minutes

Now this is the problem - I always get 2 minute delay if I switch to Auto-lamp mode. I cannot turn the delay off, neither I can select any of the other possible settings for the delay (I think they should be 10 seconds and 30 seconds)

Funny enough, when searching for the problem on Google, I found a link to a topic on this forum, which seems to be now deleted - I can only read it from Google cache:

Any ideas how to fix issue with selecting right "Autolamp delay" time? Any help would be appreciated.

My 2005 STR has a random display of "Auto Lamp Delay". It cycles from 2:00 thru the other settings for awhile and then returns to normal.

Everything seems to work fine with the lights. Just the random messages in the information center display. If I change the delay using the switch on the stalk the display does indicate it correctly.

Have not found anyone with this same problem yet?

Looks like I finally found someone with this problem. It was on an XJ but they replaced the turn signal stalk and no more changing display.

I finally found a new turn signal switch for a decent price. I was not going to pay the $250+ Jaguar wanted.

I am happy to say it fixed my random Autolamp display problem.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would add in my experience (2005 S-Type 3.0).
I always leave my lights on 'Auto' and the first indication of a problem was the warning chime when I was leaving the car after a journey; the headlights were still on.
My first workaround was to set the lights to 'Off'.
Later I noticed that I could leave the lights on 'Auto' and, instead, indicated left then right (or vice versa).
Finally today I noticed, while driving, that indicating left or right displayed "Auto Lamp Delay 2:00" and cancelling the indicator displayed "Auto Lamp Delay Cancelled".
I agree with the above diagnosis; some sort of short circuit in the indicator switch.
Now to find a decent one online or from my friendly breaker.

If it is any help as far as I know the indicator stalk/switch is a product sourced from the Ford parts bin!
I do not however know what ford it came from!

Do either of those look like what you have? The first one (STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS CBS1336) looks like a reasonable option. Click on INFO for either listing and you will see some Jaguar part numbers if you want to search further at other sources.

Problem now solved.
I sourced a complete subassembly (two stalks attached to a clockspring) for a very reasonable price from eBay.
My thinking was that a complete subassembly was less likely to have a faulty stalk (the clockspring was missing a connector)
and both stalks had chrome end buttons (nice to have them matching).
I hoped that replacing the second stalk might cure the very occasional problem where wash did not trigger wipe (it didn't).
Fitting the stalks was very simple: remove the panel over the drivers feet, remove the upper and lower steering cowl, slide out and unplug the stalks.

I did the same thing with the chrome stalks. They were from a 2012 XJ - they were a direct fit!

Very nice touch and makes the interior driver controls pop.

 

did you guys have to remove the steering wheel in order to replace the stalks?

 

No need to remove steering wheel or air bag. Actually a very simple job; less than 30m (even the first time).
Just removed the panel below the steering wheel, the bottom and top steering column cowling.
There is a latch attached to each stalk base that releases the stalk to slide horizontally out from the steering column parallel to the dash.
You can then unclip the wiring harness from each stalk base. I made sure the new indicator stalk was in the central (off) position before fitting (may not be important).
I did not even disconnect my battery (although I probably should have, as a precaution).
