Default Bizarre Electrical Occurrence- maybe

This is bound to be fun and i really am at a loos of what to think and it may never happen again. I have a 2005- S type, 3.0, 45k. i have had no major problem- just little ticky tack issues (which did once include the lurch).

I parked my car today and as normal did a double press on the locking remote to get the horn to make a short beep so I know the car is locked.

The car was parked near my office between 2 and 5 this afternoon. During the time I heard no alarm and we have a security guard - so I know no one had bother ed the car in any way.

When I came out all of my windows were completely rolled down and my moon roof was completely open and my locks were not engaged any longer..

I got in and started the car, closed the windows and the moonroof and off I went. i have no check engine light, no messages, no problems.

Any ideas as to what happened and why or should I chalk this up to a strange anomaly and forget about it. My battery seems fine and i have no problems that would suggest any difficulty with that and frankly i believe the default on the system is if the power were removed the locks would stay secured and nothing about any of that would roll down the windows or open the moonroof. So i am looking for suggestion or ideas- as it was very strange and no i am not into thinking the Borg has assimilated my Jag.

It's called Global Open. You most likely pressed a button on the remote key fob when it was in your pocket.

At some points i have played with all the buttons on my remote. What would I press if i wanted to use global open. I have just gone out and tried and nothing like that occurred. Is it a combination of buttons or what? I also do not keep my keys in my pocket, when in my office- they stay in a drawer. I do not think I have a global open on my remote.

Press and hold the unlock button. Keep holding and watch it all happen.

Press and hold the lock button to close.

Hi Tom,

How far away was your office from your parking spot? If it was in range, the Global Open could have been activated inadvertantly. My remote works up to about 50 feet away or so. Just for security's sake I wouldn't want it to operate much further away than that. Not sure about other owner's remote ranges though.

Well if it will make you feel better I set the alarm off on both my cars from inside the house along with the opening the windows and trunk and had no idea I was doing it.

Yes. It has happened to a number of people and is a bit of a shock until you understand the cars options!

Thanks all. I do not remember reading or seeing such, but will go and try and feel better about it. It was a mystery with a slight shock.

Tom- stuck in Dallas.

I found some interesting tidbits from other threads regarding the remote global features. Apparently the factory setting is that Global Open will work with both the remote and the key in the door. Global Close will work only with the key in the door. Most likely a regulatory requirement. However, for a modest(?) fee some dealers will program your remote to have both Global Open and Global Close enabled.

Do you have the drivers handbook for your car?? Many, Many useful things in there. Even describes all the remote key fob options!!

I have attached the 2003 drivers handbook. This and many other fine documents are all posted here in the FAQ's. You might consider some research on your car??

I am really impressed with the depth of knowledge we get on this forum. Plus with the two or more factory tech's that participate regularly they keep us from getting too far off the correct path!!!
