Default Check engine light

Guys,

With my ignition to on, before starting the engine all the warning lights illuminate as they should but the check engine light goes out almost immediately.

Is this normal?

Car is running fine, no codes, no other problems....

Thanks,

Various of the warning ones should come on then go out after the (computer) internal self-test has run. Sounds normal.

On my 00 S Type - turning the ignition on - all lights go off except CEL, oil and battery. Upon starting all three go off.

Again, sounds normal...

Guys,

I'm saying the light is on for a tiny fraction of a second... If you did not know where to look you would not see it. It took me several attempts to even confirm it was lighting. It is literally just a yellow flash...

Normally these lights stay on for a second or two to indicate that the warnings are functioning. Currently I would not be able to tell in the warning light had failed and I was driving with an active warning...

Cheers,

Sounds as if you may have a poor connection between the bulb and socket, or that the bulb socket has a poor connection to the circuit board.

If the MIL (some refer to it as 'check engine light' or 'cel') needs to stay on for emissions testing, you may need to go further with diagnosing the reason. Forgive me if you have already answered this question: do you have any codes stored in the memory for engine faults?
