cigarett lighter not working
2003 s type 3.0 tried various phone cords and various lighter attachments and the car’s original lighter won’t heat
Wiring diagrams at the top of this page:

Open your year and then scroll down to figure 19.1. I noticed the diagram shows a "Power Point" adjacent to the lighter socket. Is your car so equipped, and if so, does that work? The two items are wired in parallel, so if one has power the other one should, too. Please note the lighter socket only works with the key to the ACC or RUN position.
For troubleshooting, do a click test of relay R1 in the Primary Junction Box. This is a small panel inside the cabin, just forward of the right front door. I think it only has one relay. Place your finger on the relay and have a helper turn the key to the RUN or ACC position. You should feel a click as the electromagnet inside the relay is energized. If no click, swap with a known good relay of the same size from another panel.
If the relay click test is good, check fuse F32 in the Primary Junction box.
Be sure to post back with what you find.

gee that is a good detailed overview. my simplistic response was going to be "have you check the fuse" without even suggesting which fuse, in which fuse box (my assumption being, checking them all is never a bad thing
).

The pearl in Karl's advice starts with locating and reading the wiring diagrams.
Anyone who avoids this critical step should take their car to an auto elec or trade their Jag for a tractor!
Once armed with wiring colours and fuse numbers, this makes fixing faults a doddle.
However, vital points to note, and too often not appreciated . . .
(1) traditionally, say for a lamp, battery voltage (B+) fed a fuse, then switch, then lamp, then by ground return back to the battery;
(2) so, those ground returns are just as critical as the power leads . . . corrosion there can be as affective a killer as a blown fuse;
(3) modern vehicles, using this century's tech, switch on the "ground-seeking side" of all features . . . often using digital devices;
(4) these semi-conductor switches dissipate far less heat in that configuration and a further benefit is reduction in loom wiring,
(5) this is critical to fault finding. If you go searching for B+ (12-13V), using just a simple voltage tester, you will find it everywhere!
Despite the above, there are plenty of examples of mixed technology on our Jaguars. Your cig lighter may be of the "old school" topology, whereas your ICE will be most certainly of the new. So the wiring diagram is even more critical . . . testing from battery, through fuse(s), to each side of device, then switch, then ground.
Hope this helps. Let us know your progress and shout of you need further help.
Cheers and best wishes

From personal experience. I believe the lighter and powerpoint are only energized with key on. Just in case

+1 on the Electrical Guide (& workshop manual & anything else relevant). We are so lucky to have access to them.
The Guides aren't perfect (partly because sometimes the production line had to use different sources of parts or wires) but they are excellent even so. Be sure to look at all parts of the Guide as there are details easily overlooked.

One of mine quit working, I forget weather it was the one in the arm rest area or by the radio. I popped the lighter receiver out and found tons of corrosion at the splice. Hit it with some solder and it has been choochin fine.
