Default Hood cable

Hello all
On my 2006 Jag S type the cable that opens the hood snapped.
When I pull on the cable at the hood release inside the car it just pulls right out indicating it snapped.
So how do I get the hood open now? Any help or ideas?
Thxs!

Please note the differences between the early and late models. You will have to sort through the threads above to find details applicable to your model.

Mine broke on one side on my 2003 S-Type 3.0. I discovered I can reach in from the lower bumper "scoop" thing and actuate the release with my finger. You may need to remove the black center piece in the scoop first.

On your '06 the front bumper, anti-theft (if equipped, mine is not), etc. may be different so YMMV.

When my broke i got a long skinny screwdriver at harbor freight. It is about 24 inches long. Flat head. Then cut a v notch on the blade and came thru the grill and pushed the latch to unlock. I got lucky on my cable as it broke right on the connector end. I was able to crimp an eyelet onto the existing cable and use a small bolt and nut to secure. Still holding. The complete cables are hard to find. I think i finally found a good used one from jagbits as backup. If you need replacement check them first

Wow, that is one tiny store! My local HF is probably 150 feet long at least, although I’ve never measured it.

I found a complete one at a local U-Pull-and-Pay but I decided I couldn't be bothered to fix it. I just decided to keep doing the reach around.

i've always been a bit paranoid about snapped hood cables on all my cars. Whenever a hood is opened, before I close it I always give a shot of lubricant (Krown rustproofing, penetrating oil, etc) into each hood latch and cable assembly, as well as any shifter linkage etc. But things do happen.

agree. The weak spot on the cable seems to be where the double l shaped end is crimped onto the inner wire. Mine was down to 2 threads when i caught it. Got lucky
