Please provide vehicle details.

The evaporator is part of the air conditioning system and is inside the vehicle. Perhaps you should list conditions and symptoms the vehicle is displaying.

Hi NBCat,

According to the mechanic - it's leaking air between the cylinder, head and block - between the intake. The only thing I've noticed is the loud hissing noise while driving. Then it stops. I really haven't noticed anything else. I'm just afraid of driving it thinking it will cause more problems or stop on me.

5.0L w/out supercharge. I just purchased an engine in May 2018 (previous engine had warped heads and block due to coolant). Used engine purchased from 2011 XJ 44,500 miles. I've added about 2500 to that, so the miles on this engine is about 47K miles.

Respectfully, you still didn't provide the type of vehicle you're wanting help with. The 5.0 litre unit was not fitted to the X200 or X202.

Here is a thread regarding repair to an overheated 5.0 litre engine:

My car had the same symptoms as yours is having. I went to one crook mechanic, who told me it was also my evaporator as well..turned out, I needed to flush the a/c system and charge it again, Problem solved! Paid about $75.00.

Evaporator= ac system
evaporative system= fuel system vapor control
leak between cylinder head and intake=vacuum leak
educated guess $100- $1500
non educated guess $50
