Default Cutting new key

I need to get a spare key and fob for my 2002 s type. I’m told they have to come from Jaguar England for a cost of over $400.00 cdn.
Does anyone have any better solutions?

@ Eggsy: Might help. if I would know, in which country you are. Anyway, I am down under, I made a third and fourth flip key for my 2005 S-Type: First I ordered a bunch of flip-keys on Alibaba, they I had sent the blank blades only to a fair locksmith in Melbourne, and pictures of my original Tibbe key via email (it's kind of easy to read the code just by looking at it), had those blades cut, got them back in the mail, then I coded the transponders for key 3 and 4 myself (easy, when you have the original 2 keys), and then I spend weeks on trying to figure out, how to program the remotes of key 3 and 4. I had to accept that I cannot do this myself. I bought a device, which was supposed to do this, but it could not. But I found a locksmith in 90km distance, which had a very expensive device, with which he was able to do it after a few attempts without the need for "tokens", The secret was, I think, that he had to program one key after another - all in one go was not possible.

I live in western Canada. Apparently no one here does that. There is someone in the USA that does what you did so I’m exploring that.
cheers

Well, the blank-blade cutting can be done remotely, as I wrote. For the other 2 procedures you need the car to be present. If you have the original 2 keys you should be able to program the transponders yourself (if I remember correctly it was something like key 1 in, ign. on and off and key 1 out and key 2 in and same again and then key 3 and 4. And if you are very lucky there might be a way to even program the remote into your S-Type yourself, as you have an '02 S-Type. I cannot confirm this, because there are lots of procedures for that given on the net, but non works for the '05 S-Type, but maybe they work for the '02. But if not, you have to drive the car to a locksmith, who can do it. The thingy, which I bought for that purpose, did cost me AU$500 on Alibaba, and I still was not able to program the remotes.

@ Sportsdon: Alibaba is OK, if you use it the right way. Recently, the transport costs exploded, but if you are looking for something that is normally ridiculously expensive, you might want to check out Alibaba, IF you have lots and lots of time, because it is not just a matter of finding 1 part there - it starts with finding a seller, who is willing to sell you anything at all, if you do not want to buy 100 or 1000 pieces. And then you have do ask for the price and then for the postage - and this postage is the tricky part - lots can go wrong there and you really have to know, what you are doing there. Things that can go wrong: seamail instead of airmail. Delivery to the port or hub in your country only (or the biggest joke: FOB), and then you have to waste lots of time to make customs release your stuff, which could cost hundreds of $. So you have to make sure they take care of customs and that it is a "to your door" delivery. Once you learned all that, you should be fine. That diagnostic scanner, which I mentioned above, was supposed to also program my remotes. It did not. I received a partial refund and I still have a diagnostic scanner, which is useful. It told me e.g. why my XJ8 is is restricted mode: because it wants new knock-sensors - easy fix. Also, I bought on Alibaba 25 flip-keys (as mentioned above), cheap, which would have cost a fortune otherwise. I even modified some of those flip keys to take on 8-cut tibbe keys (normal is 6-cut) and I have now wonderful flip keys for my 1998 XJ8 - and that was possible only after the changed the module in the car (either to an older or new model - I forgot). Also I just bought on Alibaba from 2 sellers 4 cam-covers each for my S-Types (1 set to put on, 1 spare set each). Huge cost saving! Jaguar designed those cam covers to self-destruct: The material used is magnesium. Galvanic corrosion means that those cam covers self destruct over time. I hope that the after-market parts are better than the OEM parts - well, at least they are coated - that will help. When I will have completed this repair on my S-Type, I will write about it in a new thread.
