Darn Turret
Well fellas', I was driving Joyces Jag around Saturday afternoon, I had got caught at a red light and WHAM out of nowhere smoke/stinky antifreeze steam smell started billowing out from all angles of the hood. No warning or anything forth telling that the turret popped. At 77k on the clock I thought I would have a while longer before I had to start replacing cooling lines, DCCV etc...
I was several miles from home, least expensive tow I found was about $150.00 (god do I despise saying I have a Jaguar at times
). So I decided to have a go at a temporary fix. I purchased 4 gallons of distilled water at the grocery for about $4.00 OTD. I grabbed my Gorilla Duct Tape and my tube of Seal ALL. I carb cleaned the turret and plastic "Tee", I proceeded to run a solid bead of Seal ALL around turret and placed it on top of the broken "Tee" about 20 minutes after the Seal All adhered I then Gorilla Duct taped the turrent down and around the hose(s). I popped the coolant reservoir cap added less than a gallon of distilled water started the vehicle topped off with remaining water. I then followed Brutals advise awhile back and barely screwed the reservoir cap on, I drove approximately 10 miles home without a problem.
I jumped on ebay and found a new OEM hose assembly that started out with a $60.00 auction, there was a buy it now of $80.00, zero bids. I contacted the seller which stated if I use buy it now they would NDA to me at no extra charge, BINGO!
Jaguar Part # XR854920 includes the thermostat housing, dealer pricing around $200.00 and a days wait as well.
Not bad boys not bad!

Now run a bead of plastic epoxy around it before you put it on. I swear the part supplier screwed jaguar on that one with a "engineered to fail" joint at that spot. I dont even work on that area without quoting that thing. You look at it too hard and it breaks much less touch it

Can someone draw on the photo where this failure spot is and where to place the epoxy perhaps?
I'll have to have a look at mine soon as it's all apart right now so if there's the equivalent on the STR should I do that now as a good preventative?
So you like epoxy on plastic in this spot and not a really tough silicone instead?
My coolant tank nipple needs the same treatment.
Your great shade-tree skills saved the day for you once again, Rick....
Our cars are now ten years old and given the abundance of lousy plastic under the hood, I believe that situations like this will pose more and more of a threat as time marches on. A roll of duct tape, a tube of sealant, and a couple of old towels stored in the trunk at all times is now mandatory for us....
Now if I can just figure out the Park Brake Fault / No Cruise Available situation with my S-Type I should be good to go for awhile....

Rick's failed turret experience this past weekend caused me to pop the hood this morning and take a good look at mine. No visible leaks and it passes the white paper napkin test (no dried coolant residue seen on the napkin after a careful but thorough wipe of the area, just like I do on my DCCV every weekend), but we just never know about these plastic parts, do we....
Keep us posted on the repair when your new assembly shows up, Rick. I'm curious to know if your original turret assembly crumbles apart in your hands as you remove it....

Thanks Norri for enlarging picture. I am on a new puter, it must not be set right yet.
Bob, I don't think the STR has this hose assembly as a couple of the smaller hoses get hooked up to the TB which is located on the front of the 3.0's.
Jon, Norri is correct, the turret part pictured above above the red dashes just blew off the hose assembly. Kind of what a tank turret would look like if you removed it from the tank body. There was NO dripping or any sign she was going to blow. Upon removal the turret portion did indeed crumble under the duct tape. Again the 2005 turret is a bit different but pretty much looks the same as aholbro (Zane) has pictured. The 2005 does not have what looks to be a purge (bleed) screw on top the turret.
I did not follow JTIS or Alldatadiy for replacement. It was relatively easy to replace. Jon with your big mitts you are going to have some difficulties. I did remove the radiator splash shield, cold air intake and the air filter box. That 3 minutes was well worth it for more wiggle room. I found it much easier to remove the radiator hose on the lower part of the thermostat housing from the radiator and NOT the thermostat housing. R&R way less than an hour.
Jaguar Part # XR854920 WITHOUT thermostat housing for the 2005 and up MY
Jaguar Part # XR826065 INCLUDES thermostat housing for the 2005 and up MY (see posts below)
LOOK on ebay for OEM, I could have spent $60.00 on the hose assembly with free shipping if I were willing to wait until Thursday or Friday for delivery.
If you are at 70k on the clock it might be well worth having the part laying in the trunk waiting for the failure. Big box auto parts stores NOT available, even as a Lincoln part. Just a heads up.

Here is what I paid $80.00 for which included next day air from La. Everything you see, brand new.
Jaguar Part # XR854920 is what Norri has pictured above and DOES NOT included the thermostat housing.
Jaguar Part # XR826065 DOES include the thermostat housing.

Harrumph! No good deed and all that....eh?
(I'm reminded of 1987 when HSL-44 Detachment 4 was doing work-ups in preparation for our cruise to the Persian Gulf to relieve the USS Stark. We had some training scheduled in Guantanamo Bay before it was "GITMO" and had hitched a ride down there aboard an LPD. As the SH-60B was relatively new to the Navy's inventory at the time, it had not yet been qualified for flight operations aboard that class of ship. So we got a one-time exemption allowing us to fly on-board, stow it below decks, then trot it out, spread it, and fly off to NAS Gitmo when close enough. Otherwise, we had to find ways to occupy ourselves pretending we were on a commercial cruise ship whilst staying out of the way and notice of the "shoes" working the ship so as not to be forced into some form of servitude. They had a Marine detachment fly out to do deck-practice with their AV-8B's as we transited the Carolina coastline, and that was mildly entertaining. Anyway, the wondrous day finally dawned and the Det Maint. Officer and a spare Lt. who was not a member of our detachment but whom the squadron wanted to expose to deployed ops mounted up and flew off to Gitmo while we were some 100 mi. distant. Later in the afternoon, while preparing to enter port, the shoes discovered they'd broken a "shoe-valve" or some such and it was a critical item for port entry - it no worky- you no come in! But lo and behold, there was a spare aboard NS Gtmo! "No problem, we just dispatched an aircraft over there this morning, take it to them and they can bring it out to us..they're not certified to land here, but they can hoist it down."
Presently, the Detachment OIC was summoned to the communications dept. where he found the maint. officer on the other end of the radio, "Dave....we'd love to help y'all out and all, you know that....but see? the thing is....1600 hrs came, and happy hour started at the O'club...and you see, we can't legally fly it out to ya...."
Moments afterward, the ship's Captain and Executive Officer strolled into the wardroom where the other jr. pilot on the det and myself were enjoying an ice-cream swirl from the auto-dog and a nice paper cup of "bug-juice" in front of the TV blaring SITE-TV....."McGruff" was on beseeching us to "take a bite out of crime."
XO: "See here, Capn'? You do some guys a favor...drag 'em all the way down here from Norfolk...put up with 'em treatin' yer warship like its a luxury cruise....and then at the very end, you say, "Hey! how 'bout a lil help..just a hand....half-hour flight, nuttin' to it....whadya say...help us out?" But Nooooooo! 2 of 'em are already drunk, one is less than helpful and these 2 are in here watchin' cartoons!!! damn aviators")
Awight...I'm a reasonable man....So I'll try again:
here's how the orig. Jaguar part fails:

Here's how it will look if you replace it in time:

and the first pictures posted WERE actually on the 2005 MY, not the 2003, but it was a part obtained from Rock Auto for $62.99: Uro XR849446
(I did have to swap the old temp-sensor onto the Uro part...it came with one, but didn't match the wiring connector) See the telltale "make from" hose from this thread? https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...p-3-0l-126574/
(Just to confirm my memory, I popped the bonnet on the 05 and that's it)
And if you have 2 S-types for awhile...you collect some used parts that "May be useful for something later on.."

For the under the supercharger hose I'll sacrifice a chicken and wave it around in the air as I dance naked around a huge bonfire at night. Translation ... I have BBQ chicken once a month.
