Hello All. My question involves my side view mirrors. The passenger side will move to the closed position, but the driver's side will not move. I sprayed some WD40 into the mechanism, and I got it to close, but I'm wondering if I have electric mirrors on this model. They are electric in that the mirrors adjust in/out up/down with the console button, but I know there is an option whereby they can be electrically closed into the car body when parking. This VDP Edition had (Almost) every option Jaguar had that year but a few. Not sure why they left some off. Wondering if they left that feature off the mirrors. To activate it (if available) you leaver the mirror select switch (left or right mirror choice) in the neutral position and use the down arrow to close the mirror and the up arrow to return it to driving position. Nothing happens when I do that. So the question is: Do I not have that option or is the fact the mirror couldn't move cause the motor to burn out. I've never seen any fault light or message and the owner's manual gives no information on that particular issue. I have the option list for the car and it's pretty extensive and it mentions mirrors, but not that function specifically. Also, is there some web site where you enter your VIN and it gives you every feature on your car or can only the dealer access that> Thanks.
I know, I was impressed with the car when I saw it on the showroom floor, but silver isn't my go-to color. But when I opened the door and looked at the interior wood, I was hooked. I drove it away and hour later.
As far as I know the folding mirrors were an extra cost option on the USA market STR's. (Standard on STR's in UK and EU.)
They do not 'auto' fold. They only go in and out when you opperate them.
They tend to stop working if they are not regulary used.
From the manual:
The mirrors can be folded towards the door for better clearance/protection.
With the mirror selector switch in the centre position, briefly press the rear of the four-way switch.
I know. I read the same thing in the manual, and according to the VIN the car was manufactured in England, but as far as I know, it's not an 'R'. Just a standard S-Type configured in the VDP Edition.
Wow. The USMC Seal and "Persian Gulf' didn't give you a clue? I guess they don't issue 'Veteran' Plates where you live. BTW, if it referred to the car, the plate would say 'Antique' or 'Vintage' depending on the state.

No, they don’t have different plates for war veterans in the UK. Our number plates are very plain and boring, as mandated by law🙄. If you jazz them up the coppers pull you over for a scolding. I must confess my ignorance; what is a USMC seal? I didn’t even notice the ‘Persian Gulf’ writing. It is so tiny it looks like a blur on my phone screen.
FhvnEd I was thinking that the big interior shot was very clear and crisp, then I checked your biography on the forum and I saw your profession was photographer, that explains it!
Ah, I see! Thanks for the explanation. I don’t know these things because I’ve lived a sheltered life. I was brought up to be a pacifist. My parents thought that even Tom and Jerry was too violent for a kid with a young formative mind to watch. Cartoons were banned in our house.
I’m still a pacifist, but I must confess to enjoying the odd cartoon/animation movie these days.
