Default Engine Management System - cost and availablity

When I got my S-Type diesel the airbag warning light was showing, so under warranty the garage stated they would sort it. It went at first to an auto electrician, but I was told that he could not fix it. I was told that the engine management system had to go to Jaguar and they would refurbish it as no new ones are made anymore. I was also told that it was 'f'?%£g expensive'!

The problem is fixed, but out of curiosity, does anyone know how much the engine management system is to refurbish and are only refurbished ones available?

I doubt they actually did what's been implied or said.

They almost never fail.

There are probably plenty of (used) spares but who knows? Contact some parts suppliers if you really want to know

(I'd worry about all the other stuff that fails quite often! Do some reading on here.)

Delta, many airbag lights in the earlier s-types are either wiring harness related or the 'clock spring' behind the airbag. Did they blink at you before staying on?

You say the problem is fixed...may I inquire as to how?

Yes the airbag light blinked and then stayed on. I was told that it had been fixed by sending the managment system to Jaguar to be refurbished.

hmmm, well I do know that a certain number of blinks is code, when (and if) it happens again, count them and make note. First set, then the second set of blinks. IIRC its a 2digit code (22 was mine, for example...two blinks, steady...two blinks, steady)

Thanks. I'll bear that in mind should it start again. It was a steady 7 or 8 then the light stayed on. I have been asked to go back to the garage in a couple of months so they can check it, so I'll ask then.
