Misfires can be caused by other things besides bad ignition coils, any how it can be very expensive to guess. What will you do if the misfire persists?
change all the injectors, ect. I dont own a shop or even work at the dealer anymore, but I am going to start a diagnostic shop as a hobby at my
friends used car dealership, free at first of course. But anyhow, guess right. And having an ignition scope is a life saver, at the dealer we had one guy replace an engine twice for a misfire that wouldnt go away, it ended up being a partially plugged cat converter, so case in point always test before guess.

what would one have to listen for or look for if it were the cat? because i had a feeling it could be the catalyctic but saw oil on coil boots so figured they were fried. will check that though.

id fix the cam covers then buy one new coil... then when the cars is all back together and running rough... i usually.. change one coil at a time.. until the car runs good then you know you changed the right coil... then throw away the bad coil...
