Fuel Pump Replacement instructions
All
My 2001 Jaguar S-type fuel pump 15 amp fuse continues to blow and I must replace it in order to get the car going. Based on reading this forum sounds as if I need to replace the fuel pump(S).
Can someone tell me if there is a thread with the instructions on how to replace the fuel pump?
I'm not shy about doing it myself but not sure how to relieve the system of the fuel pressure before starting? Do I just open the gas cap to so this?
Also is it possible that the relay is bad? I've changed the 15 amp fuse about 6 times now but haven't change the relay.
This all started when I let the fuel run low and discovered I had a weak (bad) battery! I have about 105,000 mile on this car and cannot afford another one until my kid graduates medical school!
Thanks to everyone in advance!!!

The electric pump is in the right side of the saddle tank assy. The left side contains the transfer or 'jet' pump. (both have sending units to 'average' the fuel level)
Remove the rear seat bottom to access the pumps.

You can find the pump separately at a local parts store. After you lift the back seat up your pump should be in the housing on the right/passenger side. You don't need to purchase the full housing and everything if it's not bad. The way to remove the top covers under the seat says it require a certain tool I didn't have the specialty tool so I took like a small punch and just tapped it in the direction to loosen it up, it worked perfect. It don't take much time to get it removed and installed at all. (Special note! TRY NOT TO DAMAGE THE FLOAT ON THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING)
I replaced my fuel pump today and it was easy to. My car was sitting for a 2 weeks so I decided to charge battery. After installing the pump and then putting battery back in the car I accidentally reverse the polarity. SMOKE started coming out of the hood and I could smell the burning rubber. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE.
Guys
I replaced my Fuel Pump today!!!! It was very easy as the instructions I received with the pump listed how to relieve the pressure in the fuel system!
I ordered my replacement at Rockauto for $116.00 it was the Spectra brand.
Couple of notes!
Do it outside as the Gas really made me HIGH!!!!
I changed only the pump on the passenger side and not the sender unit on the driver side.
ALSO I forgot to put the new O-ring/gasket on and had to take the pump back out. The white connection was VERY DIFFICULT to remove! It took be about 30 mins to get it back off the new fuel pump!
In the end I broke the red locking ring and forced it off and was able to reattach it without any leaks! I'm hoping I don't need the Red Locking thing. Its all re-attached and i have been watching for leaks for two days now and nothing.
Also the black covers that hide the fuel pumps really confused me on how to remove. For anyone that has not done this job before they just pop off. I used a hammer to pry it upwards until it popped off!
But anyway, I hope this helps someone as the local Tulsa, OK shop had quoted me 1063 dollars only to change the pump on the passenger side! What a feeling to only spend 1 hour and 120 bucks to fix it myself!!!
Again thanks to all the Veteran of this site! Your previous posts have saved me a TON! AND has made me fall in love with my Jag again!
Next up! Need to replace my Heater Control Valve!

I have reviewed the Forums was it stated the fuel pump for the 2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 is on the passenger side of the car. I was told the sending unit is on the passenger side and fuel pump is on the driver side. Please, tell which side is the fuel pump on for my 2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0. I also I read where you can test to see if the sending unit and the fuel pump can be tested before taking either one of them out. I don't know if anyone will call me personal to troubleshot these issues. Lawrence Berry 772-380.2345

The pump is on the passenger side. The jet pump is on the drivers side. When you turn the ignition to run you should hear a woosh sound for about 2 seconds. If you don't hear that (and you verified the fuse, relays associated with the fuel pump are good) and the inertia switch is depressed (lower dash - drivers side) you need to replace the fuel pump (passenger side)
There are SENDING UNITS ON BOTH SIDES!!!!!!!!!
The electric pump is on the right side as stated.
The JET PUMP (or transfer pump) is on the left side of a Normally Aspirated S-Type.
P.S. describing locations as 'DRIVER'S or PASSENGER'S side on a British car is asking for trouble. WHICH SIDE IS THE DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S????? LHD or RHD????
Not all of us on this planet drive on the same side of the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not all of us live in the same country.
Order the wrong part and you sometimes get a MIRROR IMAGE of the correct part.
Looking on the wrong side of the car can waste alot of time.
