Default Headers that might fit STR

Has anyone taken a look at, or seen, headers made by "Bamford Rose" for Aston Martin 4.3L and 4.7L Jaguar based engines?

http://www.bamfordrose.com/exhaust-system.html

They are very beautiful and probably very expensive, but perhaps they could be made to fit our STRs.

Did you see the (stainless steel) headers in old threads? Look for posts by tbird6

Yikes! $8,300? At that point the twinscrew looks like a good deal with more power

I've read all the header threads in the past, and I am still not sure that we have a good S-type header solution. If they fit, I'de wager that the Bamford Rose headers would work well, despite their horrendous price!

The thing about headers is no-one (Tijoe may be the exception) seemed interested to actually buy&fit.

For under $1K I might be, otherwise: NOT!

But, in looking at a used STR engine or rebuild for the 03 I recently purchased, if it was convenient, the timing would be right in about 4 months to put on headers.
I really don't have the time to build my own headers. Been there, done that, years ago for a Boss 302 I put in an E-type.

eh highly doubt it will fit the STR application, the chassis is totally different as well as being a dry-sump motor; if you end up having to cut it up to fit, whats the point?

Yes, there is the aston-tax, also consider this a european product and price listed... aftermarket goodies and go-fast parts just cannot be compared to what we in north america would expect to pay... and... its also a COMPLETE exhaust system, and looks really well made. with all this said, the price isn't too shocking...

Only ones I could think of offered were the custom made B.I.P. headers which were offered (search) i think were well over $3,000 in price...

Any decent fabricator could come up with a custom make header... i doubt you could find anyone to tackle them for less than $1,000 a side...

Hard to beat the $0 stock cast iron manifolds, not to mention they will never crack or fail like a tubular unit...

Yes. Stainless Works made the very nice full length headers for the Lincoln LS. A pair was purchased and passed around to 5 or 6 different people including at least 1 STR guy before someone with an LS finally installed them.

I see Stainless Works has now stopped advertising them completely.

As JagV8 said nobody would step up to the plate and try them out. We did find that the EGR systems are different so you would need to adapt that somehow.

They were about $1200 at that time several years ago.

Ok so I emailed Stainless Works about exhaust parts for our STR's! I think if a bunch if us with STR's start flooding them with inquiry's on exhaust parts such as headers, mid pipes, cat-backs, etc they may consider putting some thought into building something!
This is what they responded:

Hey Michael, Thanks for your interest in Stainless Works Exhaust. We do not have any products for the Jaguar at this moment. We have not had a high interest in this product so at this time it is not on our list of development vehicles. If it is shown to have more interest it is something we will consider. If you are interested we can do a custom exhaust for your car. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks

doubt you'll get much interest from the forums...

if someone wants a custom exhaust for their STR, its very likely they can find a local shop/fabricator who can build anything you want for the car...

Ya there isn't many STRs left out there, even less that would fork out that kind of cash.

I've looked into getting some "short" headers made up, basically an enlarged version of the stock N/A manifold, more info here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-2l-s-c-80560/

The Bamford Rose AM headers won't fit a Jag, and in any case the 4-1 design is plain wrong for our engines.

AM changed the firing order of the 4.3/4.7 compared to our engines, the 4-1 works for them, it won't work for us. You can see Count Iblis (former Jag engineer who was involved in the development of the AJ-V8) explains it in that other thread.

I simply have not had time to go any further than sizing up the flange from a spare manifold gasket, & scribbling a few designs on paper. Also, it'll probably be $3000 to get a pair of headers custom made. + the cost for cats, getting the rest of the exhaust done, etc. etc...

At the moment it's just not worth it...

Ya esp if the twinscrew kit ever gets released. Sure it will be twice as much as the headers (prob $6k) but the power difference is more than twice.

$8000 for headers on a $10,000 car? yea that's a good idea.. i would put the money into the car you want, that's designed from the ground up for the performance you are looking for...

Not always ... on the AM boards they keep on mentioning that Jaguar OEM filters fit the V8 models at less than half the AM dealer price

Oh and for the 3.0L owners .... you have 1/2 a AM V12 ... it's two duratec v6's spliced together.
