My vote would be throttle body, torque converter and very expensive brakes. Plenty of topics on all of these.

A quick scan of the S type discussion area contains just about all the common issues.

What's a donnot bag?

STR's are not so common on the road ways.....not much for modifications either....We are working on a getting a custom dyno tune out ehre in the midwest this coming spring/summer....

It is nice car to have w/ good amounts of pep, and handling....night and day difference from the X type....

Just check out the car as any used car and if any issues are there see if it is a common issue or one you should just walk away from

HAHA You just wanted it cheaper.....That is funny...What dealership is that? I would love to drive over if it was close and show them what a rear R should be.... Supercharger, Wheels, Brembo brakes, R seats, 6spd auto, Body kit, CATS suspension, etc.....

They prob got a V6 3.0 S Type on trade and paid way too much for it.....Good job on the guy who traded it in and got over BIG TIME!

There will be allot of fake R's popping up over the next few years.Dreamers or guys who can't afford one will try to make the fake.
Remember all the fake GTO's and Z28's that showed up in the 70's-80's.

A good used XFR for $14000.00 will be out there around 2016-2017 consider a 2003STR that is 7 years old and cost $58,000 new $14,000CAN. now
XFR $80,000 US in 7 years maybe $20,000....who knows,if the econmy turns around they might even hold there value better.

Whoa, your going for the S that is falsely badged an R? What kind of upgrades/mods have they done, I know you mentioned some things were done to it. Make sure that anything that was done to the car, was done properly. The last thing you need is some hack adding and modding things on an S Type incorrectly, next thing you know CEL will be going off like the 4th.

Is there ANY way to bring it to a indy Jag mechanic to have it checked out first?

Do you have a link to the car, is it listed on the net? I'm still confused, they are selling it as an STR but it is just a V8? I would think when you check the VIN, the fact that its not an R would be apparent..

Yes "Stu" please post a link. We will really help, promise. Heck, I did some VERY minor things to both my Honda's and took it all off before trading either one since modded cars are ALWAYS worth less than well maintained original ones.

Well, the red one is not an R. I visited their website and they are not listing it as one either. It is a real clean 06. I will say that it is a pretty loaded car, minus nav. A little detail that some may miss is the fact that the red car has the luxury pack interior. Burl walnut trim and upgraded leather seats with contrasting piping. Shame that they don't post pictures of the black R. Converted for the US users..The red one has about 22k miles and they are asking 25,000 us $$$. Take some pictures of the 03 since the red 06 V8 car looks real nice.

Here is a direct link to the dealer's listing of the 06....http://www.acurareddeer.ca/used/Jagu...afab232682.htm

Just a little thing... Looking at the red one again I noticed that it too suffers from the dreaded "hood liner shrinkage" issue!

Ya doesn't really do much with no pics of the black R. Can you take some pics and post? The red one is nice, my opinion, dont like the rims or the color.

Strange that the luxury package didnt include Nav. I really do like the piping on the seats and sometimes I wish my R had the part wood steering wheel instead of the full leather wrapped.

Stu. Take this transaction slow.... do some research and find for yourself what your car is worth.. Kelly blue book, other X types of same year and mileage on Autotrader etc.Remember they will give you a wholesale trade in quote, very different from a private sale number.

Go look at car and take photos and post here.We have great guys with experience that will steer you straight.
If it is a fake "R" do you really want it?
Make sure for your protection, that this dealer offers some kind of 30 day warranty and if you do buy look into an after market extended warranty.

I believe they go by NADA not Kelly Blue Book etc. Everytime I go to trade a car in they pull out this B.S. NADA book showing what it is going for at auction, and try to low ball the snot out of me. Be prepared, confident, firm and act like you dont really need to do anything but will if they come to your terms. Also keep in mind, this is an Acura dealer. They want to MOVE these Jags, and will most likely get rid of them for a little over what they are into it for. Finding what they are into for is a whole different ballgame.

Riski.
Stu is in Canada and I know(don't know why, I have done it myself)is reluctant to buy in the US.It is much easier to do than most Canadians think.
With the dollar close to par it is a great time to buy south of the border.
I also think he is wanting to keep the price around $14000.
He should sell his car private to get the most value for it.
