Jaguar s type 3.0 v6 manual 2000
I bought a Jaguar s type 3.0lt V6 manual in March this year.Amongst a few other jobs i had to replace the power steering pump everything worked untill now that is has become colder the pump makes an awfull noise when its cold but as it warms up it becomes silent. Now i wonder if i have put the correct steering fluid in it? I have just found out that i have put a mineral type in it and not a synthetic does anyone know if i replace it with synthetic fluid will it cure the problem? And if i don't replace it will it damage the pump?

middlemarsh,
As you've already made a separate Intro, I've moved this question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST to S-Type forum.
This is the place to post technical questions about your S-Type. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

A long time member and many time Jaguar owner (Grant Francis) sent the post below for the early S type, to me, when I first became a member. I have not yet had to use his advice but I will in the future. I especially like the idea of draining with a syringe.
"the Power Steer fluid is "special" and I use Penrite PAS, whish is Green, and exactly the Spec for the Ford rack in our early cars. Mine had ATF when I got it, and steering was lousy/noisey/etc, and now after 4 syringe out and top off, is SWEET." (Grant Francis)
By mentioning this I am not arguing the point against using Dexron III simply because I have not had to do this job yet. But his advice is noteworthy.

Most alarmingly, not only does it not specify units of measure, it makes no mention of system volume at all. The only guidance is "Check that the fluid level is between the marks on the dipstick. If necessary, top up with power steering fluid as specified by your Jaguar Dealer." followed by "Should the level be very low, report the loss of fluid to the nearest Jaguar Dealer."
As I see it, there is distinct ambiguity of what constitutes 'very low' where the action of the owner goes from following the top up procedure as specified by your dealer to the more extreme reporting the loss to the nearest dealer.
I was always taught that any sort of serious loss should be reported to the police, followed by the insurance people.
I'm so confused.
