Default Jaguar S Type R Help Quick!!

I've been offered the chance to buy a 2005 S type R with 98k miles on it for $1,600. Looks like it's in pretty good condition. Paint looks good, rims look good, seats have minimal to no creases in the leather. Seller wants to move it or else it's going to auction so I only have until tomorrow to make a decision. I currently have a 2002 X type 3.0 that is a great car, 93k on it, still runs great, however, it has the common rusty sills and when I say they are rusty I mean there are two giant holes when you open the front door and peek inside. It's awful. Apart from that I've had to replace the water pump. fuel pump, rear control arms, and front bearing.

I know the S type R's have the valley pipe that typically needs to be replaced. I need someone to school me quick on the S type R. Common problems, things to look out for etc. Do they suffer from the same rotten sills? I've read before that they fixed a bunch of things with the 2004 models and on but I don't know if that's true or not. With 98k on the clock, what will I most likely need to replace and/or have inspected? How long are these cars usually good for? Is 98k miles a lot for an S type R?? Thanks.

Use the search function as this topic has been discussed many times.

Generally, the coolant hose underneath the supercharger must be replaced and fluids changed. If you have the service history of the vehicle, you can see what has and has not been done. If you don't have the history, start with changing all fluids.

Other typically potential problem areas are the rear differential and wheel bearings. A new battery should also help reduce the possibility of random DTCs.

Perhaps others in areas with heavy chemical treatments on the winter roads can let you know about rot in the sills.

That's an extremely low price. Extremely.

It's not miles that will kill it. Age, rust, failure to maintain, etc - much like any car.

Definitely use Search and also have contingency money - again for any car as any car can go wrong.

Sounds too good to be true. Any number of issues that can make that $1,600 initial investment sky rocket. Valley hose and trans are two items that come to mind.

Additionally, the seller pushing you to act quickly sounds like a desperation move. You know if he takes the vehicle to auction they sell it as is even if they push it onto the auction block.

If after someone cannot go back and say "the cars not drivable".

Do your homework before pulling the trigger... Good luck!

Let it go to auction, and then bid on it yourself.
Set yourself a limit though and don't get auction fever.

There is no 2014 S-Type R. Are you sure you posted your question in the correct forum?

It's also very helpful if you provide some additional details such as vehicle MY, engine and any conditions that cause the symptoms you need help with.

Check for torn boots on the front and back suspension and the steering.

My son lives in Chicago and we never buy cars from that area. We work together and move California cars his way when he needs one. For us, well worth the hassle.
