Lost key
Unfortunately, Jerry...the short version is..."you're screwed!" - I think.....that is if you have MY03 or subsequent S-type - you don't say in your post. If you have the 99-02, it may be easier.
Pardon me, Welcome to the forum, Jerry! Glad you've stopped by. Please stop by the New Members area and introduce yourself so you can get a proper welcome to the forum, the mods will take notice and upgrade you to full status when you pass through all the gates, etc.
I believe you will have to have the car towed to a Jaguar dealer and buy two keys and have them programmed to the car. (It takes two to program, so you cannot just buy one) if you do have the earlier car, I believe those were possibly owner-programmable, so you may be able to get one key from a dealer (after providing proof-of-ownership) that will start the car. If 03 or later, I'm reasonably certain all they can make for you is a key that will open the doors and boot, but will not start the car. The key has a chip that must be programmed to the car in order to start it - hence they need the car to make "that kind" of key.

Only had one key and the only info I have to replace a lost key for a 2005 S-Type 4.2 is take to a dealer...their cost estimate for remote etc is $600+. That doesn't include towing Anyone know a different solution. Car stranded at Orlando Intl Airport parking.
Jerry, search the Orlando area for a locksmith that has and can program a "Tibbe" key.
Also search the s type threads here for "idiot joycesjag" its worth a read and a good laugh about the subject!

Without any key I think you need to involve the dealer to be able to find out what the cut is before you can do anything.
Then you can open but not start the car, so it will still need to go to a dealer or someone with the dealer software to program two keys. (two minimum)

With the info to look up a locksmith and "Tibbe" key on Google I found 2 in Orlando who could come to make a key. Engaged one, met him and had key for ignition and key for door in 30 minutes...$175. Drove "home at last", no place like home. By passed the Jaguar dealer offer of $687 + towing.

When I worked at the Jag dealer I would ask the service adviser to look up the 'key-code' in DDW. The VIN had all the original vehicle info as long as the locks were NOT changed (or the Radio replaced for that code). Then parts dept would cut the key and I would configure to the car.
A call to Jaguar or an authorized dealer with the VIN can get the car info.

The locksmith might be BONDED and have access to the info. You only need to provide proof to the locksmith if he assumes responsibility. I have no idea how each State or how manufacturers deal with this issue.
I do know that the info is available to CERTAIN individuals. I had access to some info as a dealer employee but I did NOT have access to key codes or radio codes.

After losing my key I was able to have Locksmith make keys when stranded at Orlando airport parking lot.-one to open door and one for ignition. Now I need a remote made...any way without a dealer?
I didn't understand why 2 keys but paid the locksmith $175 then the $28 parking and headed for Daytona Beach...Still trying to contact the locksmith to ask for the process to have the remote with switchblade. What I see on Ebay appears to be a blank then pay a dealer for the code, etc.
Thanks Jerry, that's what I got from ebay, the blank switchblade key and a fob, I'd assume that the locksmith could cut and program one of those for you.
It might be worth shopping round the dealers, IIRC I didn't pay anything like $680 and probably less than you paid the locksmith to get mine done in PHX.

Thanks Norm: Problem in Daytona...no Jag dealer...long drive to Orlando to check the key situation. Contacting the locksmith to do as you suggested. Reason my cost was so much the car was at Orlando airport parking and my one key lost. I found the only locksmith available to come and make a Jag key.
Not to hi-jack, I need a key fob. I have a key that opens my doors and starts the car, but no key fob. If buy one of the ones off eBay I would need to have it taken to the dealer to be programmed correct? I now I can have a locksmith cut it. But can a locksmith do the programming also.
