Moonroof Won't Open

Moonroof Won't Open
I'm at the limit of my knowledge on this one -- and it didn't take very long to get there!
I searched this forum for answers and didn't find anything. I looked in the JTIS and I get to the part that says "Go to the Jaguar approved diagnostic system." I have no idea what that means!
The moonroof is fully closed and won't budge when the switch it pushed or when the global opening function is used on the key fob. There is no sound such as a motor running and the fuse looks okay -- I didn't have another 20A fuse to replace it with, but it looks fine.
So, what's my next step?

Next step would be to ensure the sunroof motor harness is actually connected to the motor. If I recall, the motor should be in the vicinity above the console on the headliner that contains the moonroof switch and lights. Come to think of it that switch may not be connected either.
There also should be a relay for the moonroof / check JTIS.

Hi OldMike; and greetings from down under ...
I sense you are still wrestling with the "Jaguar Approved Diagnostic System". This is referring to the tools package (hardware and software) that unlike purely generic OBDII code scanners, is able to interrogate, reset and/or calibrate all peripheral control modules as well as the ECM. It is normally only available to Jaguar dealers or specialist independents ... although more and more forum members are experimenting with cheaper (read cloned) tools like Mangoose ... see plenty of threads here.
Of more immediate concern, as pointed out by abonano, the sunroof motor is controlled by "relay" ... and like many of these S-Type devices that look like relays, but often contain controllers and other electronics ... you may find that the power feed and the relay energising coil are each fed from different fuses. Sorry I haven't consulted wiring diagram for your year model - there are at least 4 different sets - and only that for my much later model falls to hand.
My point is ... check the appropriate wiring diagram carefully ... pull, test, swap each fuse that impacts on the motor circuit. Beware the trap of pronouncing a fuse "good" on the basis of looks ... test it. If you have no spares (?) then swap similar rated fuses with other circuits for test purposes. Take care before swapping "relays" unless you know the replacement is electronically identical. It may be that you have an issue with switches, connectors, wiring loom, or even in CANBUS ... but let's get the basics sorted first.
Best wishes for an early fix.

No, I haven't tried the clone -- I have a question or two, will I need a PC (Windows) computer to use it, and where is it available for $45 (I found one for double that). Thanks.
