Default Need help please!!! Gearbox fault!!

Hey Guys im new and i have joined because i see this is one of the most popular Jag forums and i need help. i have been doing research online on this gearbox fault. i have read in many sites that it is a minor fix of the Prestroke 3-4 valve spring. even though when i got the computer code PO795 (Pressure Soleniod C) people say that all you have to fix is this spring... now i want to start by fixing the spring but there a process behind it that you must.
drain the Tranny oil
remove pan
remove filter
remove 4-3 pre stroke valve
remove spring
replace with the new spring
install the prestoke valve agian
install new filter
install new gasket
install pan fill with fluid
check correct level
now i know the steps my question is....is there and specific way to change the oil? a certain oil i should use( read mercon V is best)? can someone give me steps to changing Tranny oil in the jag? please if someone with exp. with this type of problem and/or someone that can tell me how to change the oil get back to me asap thank you guys so much!!! hope to hear from you soon.

P.S should i have a proffesional do this.......I used to rebuild motors and all that fun stuff when i was younger and i am good with cars just dont know if these jags are that simple ?

Which gearbox? The 5R55N? Others have DIYed if reasonably experienced. The jag's just a car, or rather when doing this it's just an autobox. It's also a well-known box so a tranny shop should be OK too. I have it as Mercon V XT-5-QM but there will be cheaper equivalents I expect.

Yes FireMedic, what JagV8 said..
Unless you have a 2003 and up car with the ZF trans..Then the story changes..

Good policy to put the year and engine in your signature or the body of each post... Despite it running from 2000 to 2008... All S Types are not the same...

Default confused :/

my batt. seems to be fine.... ok i just want to make sure, is there anything else i should be looking for before i go in and try to change this spring? and is there a detailed explantion on how to do this and what i should be aware of i have found some stuff looking through the forums. but maybe someone can just break it down for me instead of me looking for scattered pieces? id really appreciate it. and my cars a 2001 jag s type with a AT 5rr5n. and im getting the PO-795 problem, and detials on the car, it drives perfectly fine first second and third gear takes a bit longer to get into 3rd gear but it eventually does with out any problem! and sometime it will go into 3rd and be fine( i havent tryed going past 40 cuz i know theres a problem). but than sometimes it goes into gearbox fault and it stays in 3rd (so i ussualy stay in the streets not passing 35MPH) and if i turn the car off and back on it goes back to normal and eventually back to gearbox fault. i dont understand how it can drive perfectly fine than give me the problem in 4th gear. but seems like it happens often to jags. any information will help alot and i reallllly appreaciate it. i plan on ordering the spring filter and gasket soon to go in with my dad and his friend and hopefully fixing it.

also is it for sure the spring or am i just taking a chance in fixing it and seeing if thats my problem.

Thank You,
Jason Garcia

See my reply to your same question in another thread.

BTW, you will NOT be loved for multi-posting the same thing. Beware of the mods!

Owww... Please, Jason, read through the FAQ's and such.. Also, please break up your sentences a little.. It is really hard to read. There are many people that post where English is not their primary language..and usually we (where English is our primary language) can sort through it and figure it out. It just gets real hard when it all runs together.. Help Us to Help You.

So, here is the one post / thread that should get ya going.. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=48240

A 10 or 11 yr old car? Not gonna happen. Be realistic.

Pay close attention to that code and what Search reveals if you use it with care
