Angry New strange sound after car shutdown :(

Ok, I'm hearing a "new" sound coming from my 2007 S-Type 4.2

Some of you know I just got the propshaft (propeller shaft) replaced as a remedy to the 60 MPH rear-end whine.

However, I am noticing a strange sound that I haven't heard before: after shutting off the engine, taking out the key, and leaving the car, I hear this continuous buzzing noise coming from the rear under section of the car.

The continuous buzz (which sounds like a small electric motor hum) is also mixed in with a repetitive "thud" that cycles every 5 seconds.

These noises would go on for a few minutes before it completely settles down and become quiet.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

So this is normal & I shouldn't worry?

Strange - I don't think I've heard this noise before a couple of days ago.

Is it purging vapour?

Or fuel and if fuel then purging from/to where?

Moo, fill her tanks to the top park her level then listen again. You may have had a low fuel level exposing part of the pump pickup, etc.

Yup - no more noise after I filled up the gas tank.

That's probably why I haven't noticed the sound before.

So I guess this is still normal behavior?

Thanks!
