Default No power or acceleration

Have a 2000 S type base model. It went into limp mode. Towed to a mechanic who then proceeded to find the intake gasket bad, replaced the gasket, new spark plugs but has no idea why the car has no acceleration or power. Can put it in drive, or any gear, and push the pedal and no response. Will work in reverse but not drive. If it does start to go, it is sputtering, sometime it will rev the RPM, but nothing else. He has thrown up his hands, but thinks that it might be the Throttle body, but he said that he cleaned it. Spent $1500.00 and the car will still not run. Any ideas what part(s) I should replace.
Thanks
Tony

Not likely to be TB.

May be an air leak (common on 3.0) or bad coil(s). Find someone who's not hopeless.

What is a base model? We need to know what engine is in the car.

Have you checked for codes?

Why were those parts changed? Is he just throwing parts at it? That will be way too expensive to do.

You need to figure out what's wrong before changing anything else.

Yes, surely you've got some fault codes?

Also think you need to find a new mechanic, $1500!

As mentioned, replace the mechanic first. There should be fault codes corresponding with your symptoms. Possibly clogged cats? Just guessing at it typically leads to an expensive and frustrating time.

Default No Power or acceleration

Jaguar is a 2000 with the base engine (V6 3.0)
The car does not move when gas is applied. Does go in reverse. Tried drive, 2,3 and 4th gear, but no luck. The throttle body was cleaned, and the O2 sensors check OK. New catalytic converts were just installed also.

Only fault codes found were 1131 and 1151 which seem to point to the O2 sensors. Would those make the car have no power?

Does the engine rev and the transmission is slipping? Or does the car just not rev at all?

Almost sounds like a an electrical cable was disconnected when the TB was cleaned and not reattached.

engine does not rev, but do not think the transmission is slipping. Seems to go into gear.

Default Jaguar S not able to drive

Start it up, and push on pedal, engine will not rev or do anything. After about 5 minutes, the engine will start to rev, but only up to 3000 rpm, then it seems to almost backfire and goes down to less than 1000 rpm. I can rev it back up to 3000 but once it hit that level, it just goes down to 1000.

While in P or N the rev limiter will kick in at 3000 to stop you over revving and damaging the engine.

As was posted above. You can't rev the engine over 3,000 rpm because of the rev limiter in park and neutral.

Can you get a fuel pressure gauge on the car? They are free to borrow at many parts stores.

Has the fuel filter been changed? How long ago?
