Default oil leak on passenger side

So I wasn't sure which car was causing this little spot of oil on the garage floor, so I jacked up the STR and almost immediately saw oil dripping. Slowly, but enough for a little concern. I took a pic of where it's at.

I looked above whatever that is, didn't see any oil elsewhere so it must be coming from there. What can I do about this?

You need a new steering rack and pinion. The rack is leaking out into the bellow boot.

you have an stype 2003-2008 right. The rack can be expensive from the dealer. Aftermarket is the way to go.

Yes it's '03 STR.

I found this site, price doesn't sound too bad compared to others. But the ebay link achysklic posted is a little cheaper and includes new inner tie rods. Plus the core charge is way cheaper.

You sound certain, so I'll probably go ahead and order the one on ebay first thing in the morning.

Yes we are lucky on this part. The tie rod ends are the same too.

So this isn't something I could just replace the boot on?

Default leak.!

sorry to gravedig gentlemen, but my STR recently started leaking from the driver side boot on my steering rack.. can anyone confirm if the 03 Lincoln LS Rack & Pinion is compatible with our vehicles.? ive seen a few on ee bay for about $300.. My local Jag dealers wants 2k .. im thinking of using some power steering fluid with "stop leak" additives in the meantime.. is this a bad idea?? i know our cars use ATF dexron III which none of those fluids mention.. as always, all help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Well several guys have posted that they have done it? Don't know any more than that. I would use the one posted on EBay but check RockAuto too. So it does fit. I would also change the outer tie rods at the same time.

Both the S-Type and the LS got the upgraded ZF variable ratio rack with the 2003 model year.

I would not mess with stop leak. It's really too cheap at $300 for the entire rack with both inner tie rods to not fix properly. Now if you pay the Jag price of $2K for a rack then maybe I would chance it.

thanks for the reply.. the stop leak would only be a temp fix.. i indeed plan on changing the entire rack.. just want to make sure that the ones easily found on ee bay are compatible.. when i needed to replace my radiator, according to ee bays compatibility chart, any S-type radiator was compatible with my STR.. but as we all know, thats not the case.. in this particular situation.. im not too sure.. hence me asking all the knowledgeable members here..
