Default Parking Brake Fault

I know there's a lot of threads about this, and I've read many of them as well as searched Google. I have a Parking Brake Fault message and the orange light. My parking brake functions perfectly. It turns on and off with the switch, it turns off automatically when I put the trans in gear, and it holds when engaged. My battery is 2 months old. It shows 14.5 volts with the car running and 12.6 volts with the engine off. I pulled the neg cable completely off, cleaned both ends although there was no corrosion, and cleaned the battery post. I also cleaned the positive battery post and terminal. I've done the reset procedure, twice, where you disconnect the battery, reconnect it, hit the brakes 5 times, and cycle the parking brake. I've also tried unplugging the EPB module. I still have the fault. Any suggestions where to look next?
I started, after getting home from work, on what I thought would be two simple issues. Adjust the headlights and clear the EPB fault. All the headlight adjusters are broken and the parking brake snickered and raised its middle finger at me I still love the car but am developing a genuine dislike for its previous owner.

Have you read the codes, as they'll point you at the fault(s) ?

I hope you don't live on a steep hill. I had problems with my stupid electric "emergency" brake too. What's wrong with a lever and a cable? I took it to a shop that has a Snap On computer that can talk to an S Type. It said that it was the actuator or the motor itself, not the electronics. That part is $800 if you can find one and you have to lower the rear end to replace it, because it's on the top of the diff. I sure don't want to go through all the trouble to replace it with a twenty year old electric part. My solution was to pull the fuses for the thing to eliminate the lights and warning chimes and carry around a couple of pieces of driftwood for wheel blocks, firewood will also work if you aren't near a beach.
Oh, yours still works, maybe do the reset procedure for the parking brake, which you have to do when the battery is disconnected, along with the windows.

I haven't checked the codes in the last couple of days. The only code that showed up when I did check was an evap leak. I'm not sure that code reader would be able to see the parking brake codes though. My good code reader is in the trunk of my other car which is in the body shop at the moment.

I'm thinking if you've got a warning & amber light it's thrown a code. It's possible your code reader can't read it ?

EDIT:- Have you checked it's working on both wheels ?

Good point. I have not checked that it's working at both wheels. That didn't occur to me at all. I'll try to do that this weekend.
I think my Foxwell code reader should be able to see all the codes. It does ABS, TPMS, and a bunch of others. I'm going to stop by the body shop today and see if I can retrieve it.

Well, I had no shortage of codes. C1924, C1799-00, C1397, B1582, B1260, B0442, C3153, C1581, B0217, C1315, and P0171. Oh, and P1396. On a brighter note, I think maybe the tires are ok
The parking brake, C1799-00, is the hall effect sensor so maybe bad sensor, bad wiring connection, or mis-adjusted cables. I cleared everything that would clear and will see how many come back. LTFT and STFT are, for bank 1, 20.00% and 3.53% at idle. Bank 2 is 10.59% and-1.96%. Looks like I have some work ahead.

The C & B codes may have been there ages so if they'll clear see which if any come back.

The P ones are either current or very recent as they (by law for P0/P2 ones) self-clear if the condition is fixed / goes away.

Cleared all the codes. Drove it to the Dollar store which is about 4 miles. Drove it gently over there and flogged it like a rented mule on the way back. Whatever issues there may be, this car will run. It shoves you back into the seat with authority. The power steering codes came back so I'm pretty sure there's an issue there. B0217 came back...maybe it's a fuel pressure issue? Google and other resources were less then helpful with that one. I have two new parking brake codes...C1700 Rear Corner Circuit Failure and B2477 Control Module Configuration Failure. Apparently the Hall Effect Sensor code has disappeared. Parking brake cables are pretty loose when not engaged. Very tight when engaged. I haven't found any guidance on adjusting them or how loose they should be. I did check that both wheels are holding.

EDIT: Ok, I'm an idiot. The new codes were for the parking aid module, not the parking brake module. No codes for the parking brake module have reappeared but the amber light and fault message are still there.

Most P codes flag if the fault is there for at least 2 successive warm ups and only clear if gone for 4+ warm ups.

But most can only flag if the related OBD monitor(s) is/are set. Clearing codes (or battery off) clears all those monitors, so you can easily get Catch-22 where it would flag codes if it could set the monitors but can't set them due to the fault(s).

That's why clearing PCM codes without a fix can be unwise...
