It's a hot air intake. Waste of money. Snake oil might work instead...

I get a laugh out of all the air box and filter mods that are on the market. By all accounts, the stock set up is only 1.5HP away from zero-loss 'perfection', so it would be pretty difficult for any other system to add 10.
Given that the components in question are a step backwards from the stock system as they convert it to a hot air intake, maybe the sellers mean it loses 10HP?

The original Jaguar inlet system is very good and is maximised for the engine.
What are you trying to achieve with a 3.0 litre?

"the stock set up is only 1.5HP away from zero-loss 'perfection' " was the answer..
I've only had this Jag for 2mos and it was just a dumb newbie question..

It's not a dumb question at all. The aftermarket industry is full of no benefit add-ons. The dummies are the ones who don't do their research.

I saw a segment on Velocity Channel about the add on air filter. The man took off about $750 worth of pipes and air filters and put the original back on. He said instead of losing 10-15HP from the hot air, the car gains back the original power.

If you ever want to get a rough idea of the maximum power increase a cold air intake could provide, sometime after a good rain when the dust and insects in the air are at a minimum, remove the air filter from your car and re-close the air cleaner box lid. This will maintain the stock cold air path.
Drive the car normally until the engine reaches operating temperature, then test it for a noticeable increase in horsepower and/or torque. You may feel the engine is a little more responsive at midrange to high revs, but the biggest difference may just be an increase in air induction noise, which can trigger a mild placebo effect....

Cheers,
Don

Another can of worms: On some engines, like a Ford 4.6, these "cold air" solutions throw P0171 and P0174 (lean) codes, with no vacuum leaks or intake manifold issues. I handled that by use of an Edge programmer, and a custom tune. Net gains? Nothing noticeable, slightly WORSE gas mileage. Worth it on these cars? I vote NO.

There is Massive gains adding a alloy or stainless intake j pipe
on the s type r ! And another noticable gain when You ditch the air box
For a k&n pod , with cold air partition it's a tripple whammy !
Well worth the effort , you could hear and feel the differance with my
STR but not sure about wot gains you might see on the v6, I have done intake and exhaust mods on every thing I've ever owned and the result is always a healthier feeling runner , and less throttle pressure to achieve the same result !
more air more effichency! = more power or better economy
But never both at the same time .

S type r owners have seen dyno gains
Of 9hp-15hp by just doing the j pipe alone ! Then 3-7 hp
Doing a free flow / k&n style air filter .
It's about the same increase as a full 2.5" exhaust ,
I also do realise the gains are mainly midrange not max output
But still noticeable !
Ok so the word massive might be extreme for just the intake alone
But I'll stand staunch on massive gains when you put these mods together,
If you can't notice 9hp through the seat thou you ain't doing something right,
I can notice the difference between 91 and 95 octane fuel!
Agreed that massive should be reserved for twinscrew supercharger upgrade
And turbo ing a NA engine but as far as hotting up an s type goes in my book
10 to 20Hp is a brilliant step forward may be to some massive ,considering how well the factory tuned these things! the sound is just a bonus!
Still a 10hp gain for the supercharged v8 does make it look a like 10hp for the
3.0v6 a little of an out of this world claim for the same mod!

Mickey, Sorry, but I must change the subject a bit. 1. Mina gallery sells a polished stainless steel muffler, pipe, and tips kit. They are exact matches, but they say they are slightly louder. $595 They are boss looking but shouldn't change performance. Do you know if there are any negatives to these kits?
2. The other night you posted a question about what a small plug hanging behind the battery was for??? I saw that mine was tucked under the liner. What is it for?
Thanks,,, now ya'll can go back to battle about air filters.

Not a clue, sorry. 'Loud' and 'S-types' don't go together in my mind.Originally Posted by davidladewig

Wasn't me (?) but if it's the wire I'm thinking of it was used during shipping from the assembly plant and has no further use afterwards. Originally Posted by davidladewig
