Rough idle at low rpms, delayed acceleration
Hi all,
I have a 2000 s-type 6cyl with 90k miles on it. Hasn't given me much trouble at all but recently I've noticed that the car idles rougher than normal at low rpms and when I put the peddle down there is a slight hesitation then the car accelerates. I don't experience any of this at higher rpms.
Within the last two years, spark plugs have been changed, coils, water pump (not related) and air filters. When I changed the water pump I also changed the air filters, thermo switch, cleaned out the air intake, throttle body, etc.
The car is not throwing any codes. What do you think about these real-time values when the car is parked?
fuel pressure: 270 kpa at 753 rpm, 285 kpa at 2427 rpm
mass flow air : 4 g/s at 753 rpm, 17g/s 2427 rpm
I have not had a mechanic check fuel flow nor check vacuum pressure. Next on my list but wanted to consult with you experts first.
Thanks in advance.
Scott

joycesjag - Wicked! Thanks. I've sorta heard about a 'breather elbow' either in the upper or lower part of the manifold; but, first time, I've seen instructions with pictures on how to replace it. I'm about due to replace spark plugs and will do the coils, gaskets and now replace vacuum lines and breather elbow whilst the intake is off. Thanks again for the link.

2002 X type 2.1L petrol rough idle and low rpm misfire
My misfire was due to a small leakage from the elbow ‘connection’ that goes into the inlet manifold, of the pipe that goes to the vacuum for the brake servo.
The connection is a push-fit, which can be released by pushing down on the outer black ring and pulling out the elbow. There is a o’ring inside which has dried out or perished.
I lubricated the o’ring with petroleum jelly. This cured the leak, and the misfire !!
The problem was diagnosed with a pressure smoke test on the inlet manifold !!
I can send pics of the connection if required?
