Default Sounds of silence - speakers don't work

Something strange happened yesterday, the "radio" speakers stopped working but everything else seems fine. It happened when my wife was driving but she says that when it happened that she was only trying to change a preset station.

The car has the NAV unit and when I checked last night everything seems to be working fine, there is just no sound. I can change stations on the radio and the on-dash indicator correctly displays when I raise of lower the volume either with the control on the wheel or the knob on the dash.

Both the NAV and the CD player seem to be working fine, from what is displayed, there is just no sound produced by either. The mute/phone button on the wheel also "seems" to work fine because Mute On is displayed and it goes away when I hit the button again.

I tried looking for a system reset but I couldn't locate one from the MENU options that seemed to be what I was looking for.

Does anyone have any ideas or has this happened to anybody else.

Thanks

No experience with it happening with Jaguar, but happens quite often on GM cars. The amplifier has probably sh*t the bed. You can check the power and ground going to the amp, but that's probably not going to be where the problem lies.

Speakers are not connected to each other, they cannot die together. If you still want to check speakers, disconnect radio connector and use multi tester to check speaker resistance. It should be 4-8 Ohms.

If you have the premium audio system I bet your amplifier went out. I had a similar problem. Check to see why your amplifier went out. I had a similar issue. My amplifier was burned out by a water leak. You can buy one from eBay for about $100.

Just got the repair estimate from the dealer:

"Audio amplifier module asembly is faulty, causing MOST network to
crash. Needs a new amp"

$3300.00...

They are looking for a salvaged part but I'm not hopeful.

It needs part :
AMPLIFIER
Product Code: C2C25736

SNG Barratt has it for $1300.

What MOST network? I don't think there is one in any S-Type.

>What MOST network?

Yup, and it's a fiber optic one to boot.

But can anyone please tell me where the main power amp is located? Is it up front under the dash or is it in the trunk. Sorry I don't have the manual have always had problems trying to down-load it.

Thanks

It's not MOST. It's D2B. As I put, I don't think any S-Type uses MOST.

This is all new to me, so please be kind

Wiki says this about MOST: MOST technology is used in almost every car brand worldwide, including Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Lancia, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen,SKODA,SEAT and Volvo.

Wiki says this about D2B: D2B, is an isochronous ring-based fibreoptical communications technology, with a bandwidth of 12 Mbit/s, specified by the Optical Chip Consortium for use in automotive applications. As of 2007, D2B is used by Mercedes-Benz in their vehicles.

There is a lot of S Type parts on Ebay. You should have no problem finding what you want. Send a few E-mails to the lazy junk yards that just list the car and don't break it all out.

Just be sure of what you need. Sounds like you do have a part number and that will be a big help because all the Jaguar modules I have seen do have a sticker with a part number on it.

I have a navigation unit marked on EBay at about $240. I had mine replaced because of a car break in and the factory price was over $4200.
