Default STR subwoofer replacement

I've gone through the countless threads on subwoofer replacement and I'm confused. Does the '03 STR Alpine w/o Nav have 6" or 6.5" subs on the rear parcel shelf? Also, how do you access them? Through the top? There were pics how to swap them out on cardomain, but they are now gone. thanks

I'm not sure if they're 6" or 6.5"....to access them you'd have to remove the parcel shelf, and unscrew from the top...I did this not too long ago...I used those images you're talking about for a little help they weren't step by step but got me thru....I was thinking about taking step by step photos but was more concentrated on not breaking anything lol !...I actually found it quite easy and simple really for never having done anything like this.

Does it make a difference just changing them to something better without changing anything else?

Probably not. I would suspect you might get back to original performance. I went with a standalone 10" amped sub in the boot. It is adjustable so I can turn it way down for talk radio or crank it up for Saturday night cruising.

I just don't want a sub box in there. Was hoping to replace stock subs for something better in place of them

Have a look here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ade-faq-64614/

The subs in the S-Type are the same as the later X-Type.

They are 6.5", I put a pair of Kickers in my old X-Type, were reasonably priced & did the job.

So..., lotsa great info here, but how do you remove the parcel shelf to get to the subs? Does the rear seat need to be removed?

If I remember correctly, the back seat of the STR can be folded down, you need to remove the carpet lining from inside the boot (trunk) to expose the cables which release the seat back.

You will need to remove a fair bit of trim to get the parcel shelf out.
