Exclamation Upper Ball joints on 2001 S-type

Do i need any special tools in order to replace the upper ball joints on a 2001 S type? Has anyone here done this before? Are there written procedures here? Also I've had some really bad inside tire wear and some outside but the inside wear is actually showing the wires bits! Is there anything else I should consider replacing? Can take to the shop unless absolutely necessary! Two college kids killing my wallet!!!! I have a 2001 S-type Jaguar

For the early cars like yours the lower ball joint is available separately but the upper one is not. You need to replace the entire upper arm assembly to replace the ball joint.

Check www.amazon.com for the Upper Control Arm Assemblies - about $80 each w/ free shipping - This is comapred to $250 - $600 for each side elsewhere + shipping - I recently installed them in my 00 S Type with no issues.

My forum post on this is below:

Default abonano - how did you do it

abonano - can you tell me how to replace mine? Do I simple unbolt the old upper control assemblies and install the new ones? I know I have to remove the tires but is there anything else? Did you need to have an alignment right after replacement? I'm good at following instrucrtions but really don't like to bite off more that I can chew!!! Thanks for your help!

you have to take out the shocks to remove the upper bolts. its all fun
and yes when replacing suspension pieces like that I would have it realigned.

The detailed steps are probably in JTIS if you need any more.
+1 to follow Brutal's (and the other people's) advice
