Hi, If you remove the black cover above the strut - you should find an electrical connection on top of the strut. That thing hanging there is the electrical connector for the CATS strut. (and it looks like someone taped a bolt to the end of it)
Either the previous owner converted the CATS struts to non-adaptive struts or this is intentionally disconnected for some reason. You might find the ADCM harnesses - Adaptive Dampening Control Module (rear trunk lower driver's side by spare tire) is also disconnected. Especially if you have co "CATS System Fault" message in your display on the dashboard.

thank you.... and now that you said that, look what i found on the drivers side.
and yes a do have a CATS system fault message.
but now if they replaced the front shocks with ones that are not compatable how do I get the CATS to either work right besause I dont just want to unplug the controler in the truck do I?
thanks

People who don't want to pay for the more expensive CATS struts do just that. We even had Brutal our resident factory tech say that too.
Unplug the module in the trunk and no more CATS error light and of course no CATS just standard struts.

i unpluged the controle unit in the trunk and now the back of the car is very loose. do I have the CATS shocks in the back? and if so can i keep the back shocks hooked up. is rides tighter that way? and I fugure the bolt they shoved in the front hook ups was to fool the system to belive the front had the CATS shocks. sorry for all the questions, im sure i could find most of this in the blog, but just want to make sure the car is safe and ok to drive either way.

You need to check but they are a 4 wheel setup so unless they replaced the back ones with non-CATS they should be CATS. Sounds like they cheaped out and changed the fronts to non-CATS and then just lived with the error light.
It's a shame as the CATS works very well and is one of reason's I bought my STR. They offer a real good combination of handling and comfort.
It is odd that it feels loose because the CATS default to full hard when unplugged. Boy I wish we all did that!!!
