What is this headphone jack for ?2001 s type jag
Hey guys, just bought a 2001 s type. Wow, what a beautiful car. Anyway was reaching under the left hand side front passenger seat for my fm transmitter, when I pulled out a headphone jack that was connected to the seat, got very excited thinking it could be for iPod connectivity, but when plugged in nothing happened, then I heard a faint sound and realised it was coming from the seat. Does anyone know what this is? Cheers david

When you say you connected your iPod, very faint sound was coming from under seat. Was it music? Sure it wasn't coming from your iPod?
If OK for each of above, my money is on either headphones as stated, or aftermarket transducer such as the type of sub fitted in some active feedback premier movie seats. Forget 10-12"; these are really small. Only ever seen them in one car (not a Jag) but haven't seen them advertised for a few years.
Best advice, as per posts by [JagV8] at #3 and #6, is good close-up photos. Beg or borrow a flexible snake and concentrate on capturing as much of the wiring route as you can ... then add them here.
Best wishes,
Ken

So, the sound comes from the seat, not the ipad. I made sure. I'll try to get photos today but very tricky. It is the male jack. I followed the lead as far as I could and seems to go in seat, but very tight under there got my finger stuck for 15 minutes and **** my pants thought I had to call the fire brigade lol.
Your vehicle is equipped with a butt-controlled ipod interface. Left cheek rewinds, right cheek fast forwards....

It's prolly what previous poster stated about headphones trapped.
Be careful extracting wires from under there. The seat/airbag harnesses on that model can get dislodged and cause issues if not careful.

What news David? Your story came up in workshop conversation just yesterday, and I have to correct at least part of my post ...
The "really small sub" I spoke of is apparently better known as a "kicker", for reasons that will become clear. Essentially they are little more than a bulky transducer like the magnet and pole piece out of a bass speaker that is then fitted into a movie seat ... which, with the really bass sound of (say) an explosion, provides a tangible thump to the occupier. The intent is that this kicker responds only minimally to audible sound (source of your tiny, tinny music?) but more so to sub-audible and very low frequencies.
Weird? Definitely not oem! Very interested in what you find, because the big money here is for none of the solutions posted thus far. Kicker was felt (pun?) to be just too wierd; headphones too bulky to be difficult to retrieve ... so, on the presumption you have a 3.5mm male stereo plug for audio, the majority here are plumping for two "ear buds" buried in the seat at the end of your cable.
Please let us know ... sheep stations have been won and lost on lesser subjects.
Best wishes,
Ken
