Winter Storage - In Reverse
Hey guys,
Spring is just around the corner and once all this snow is gone, I'll be bringing my S-type out of storage. It's sooo close, it's driving me crazy!
What I'm wondering is, what steps am I going to have to take to bring it out of storage? I've properly winterized it and removed the battery for the winter. It's been on a battery tender out of the car all winter. What sort of "resets" am I going to have to do, if any? I'd have a look at my manual, but it's in the car.
Thanks for any insight!
Rob

If I remember correctly.
Electronic Parking brake - hold the parking brake handle up till the message goes away in the dash. Car in park foot off brake.
One touch up / down windows - hold the window switch down 3 or 4 seconds after the window stops traveling, Repeat for up.
One touch sunroof - same deal as the windows, but do open, close, and tilt up.
Radio station memory. Oh and set the clock
I think that's it.
Take care,
George

Excellent, thanks George!
I just hope the bloody thing starts. There are posts all over the forum where member's Jags didn't start after a long winter's nap. Keeping my finger crossed. Keeping my fingers crossed on the hood liner too. That's the only thing I forgot to keep an eye on when I periodically went to go check in on her.
Come on spring!

The hood pad should only be an issue if it's stored with mice or the potential for them. Oh check tire pressures too.
Funny how you're looking forward to spring to bring the S-Type out of storage, while I look forward to it to bring the 500sl out..
Take care,

Same here driving me crazy it's been a long winter. Here in CNY we still have probably 4 foot of snow still on the ground and it is still not finished, so far I think we have had around 160" for the season. Both my 2004 STR and my 1985 BMW M6 turbo are tucked away waiting to pounce as soon as spring arrives and I like to have two good rain storms to wash off the roads before I unleash them both for the summer. It is coming!
You'll be fine. Turn the key to position 2 and let it sit for a minute then fire it off. How much gas was in it.

I covered the engine compartment, interior and tires with Bounce fabric sheets. I hope it wasn't anecdotal to use them to keep the mice away.
@uropnm6 - You guys have had a crazy amount of snow this year! Every system that has moved through here seems to have stayed well south, and slammed you guys in NY and the eastern seaboard. I'm not complaining mind you, we haven't had nearly the snow we normally get up here.
I've got another question - where on the S-type should I be looking for mice nests? I put steel wool in the exhausts and I'm going to change my cabin air filter, as well as take a peek in the air intake box. Are there any other nook and crannies I should inspect prior to start up?
She has a full load of fuel with Stabol in it prior to storage as well as having the tires at Max pressure when I stored her. Thanks for the tip on the ignition.

We got hammered with snow this year much more so than usual, but hopefully it's over... It IS March tomorrow.
Take care,

A lot easier to just charge battery before storage, and either use battery tender in car or recharge mid winter. Has worked for me for years. My 2004 (build date late 2003) still has OEM battery though I will replace it this spring before any long trips to avoid a dead battery while away. Also cheaper to use my commercial discount than get whacked while a way for a "SPECIAL ORDER"!
Broke the Black Cat out of hibernation last night. It had been stored since around Thanksgiving.
Unhooked the battery tender (battery stayed in the car, as it was stored in the garage).
Checked air in the tires, added just a few PSI all the way around.
Checked all the fluids, good to go. I had just dusted and spray waxed it a week ago so she's clean. Rotors actually didn't look too bad at all, just some very light condensation rust. Pulled the Damp-rid can out of the cockpit.
I had added Sta-bil to the fuel and ran it for awhile before shutting down. Turned the key to first position, waited just a sec, and she fired right up. Let her idle for about 5 minutes while checking underhood - all good.
Now the best part - took her for a nice half hour drive to get up to operating temp, heat the cats up real good, work the suspension, and let the tires warm up.
Drove it to work today!!

Thanks Jon. Unfortunately my recent trip to the Bahamas got me all wound up to get the Jag on the road. Somehow I forgot that the sun doesn't follow the airplane, and the roads in Pittsburgh would not be completely dry. I went through a couple of wet spots on the way to work and then had to re-wash the car after I got home.
But there is no turning back now, I can't go back to the winter beater after driving the Jag today! It would be like giving up my plasma tv in favor of a black and white 13 incher with rabbit ears and a vice grip channel changer.

I'm jealous! Mine won't be out until late March or into the beginning of April. At least I'm heading to sunny Florida for a week and a half to scare away those winter blues. I'm just about done driving around in my mini-van and can't wait to get my butt in the Jag.
