Default Purge valve location on a 2006?

I've been trying to track down my "small vapor leak" and have found a lot of blogs but I'm confused on locations. I've got a 2006 that was built in Feb 2006. I'm not sure if that is considered an early 2006 or mid 2006. I know a lot of parts are done by the last five of your VIN (mine 66640). One of the best blogs I found was from this site and it had a picture of the purge valve under the hood and it was cracked. My jag doesn't have the same setup under the hood. Mine has the VVT and his didn't which may be why the purge valve isn't in the same location. He referenced part number XR830786 which according to the Illustrated Parts Breakdown from Jaguar it's good for an 01-06 model with the AJ811242 being for the 07-08.

Any insight on where this purge valve is located for the VVT vehicles would be much appreciated.

I've done all the obvious stuff like swap out gas caps with Jaguar dealer parts. Pulled up the back seat and looked for any signs and did the sniff test. Put it up on the lift and inspected the lines going to the charcoal canister assembly. I'll clear out the engine light and it's rear it's ugly head again in a couple of days.

VIN breaks are in the Vehicle Spec PDF in the stickies
2006 N52048
2007 N71665
so you're 2006

But sorry I don't know where the valve is in your car.

They changed the location starting with the 2006 model. The 2005 has it in the same place as yours. I'm guessing it has something to do with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) not sure why that would matter, but that's the only difference between the 2005 and 2006 under the hood.......I think. Of course they changed the brakes, but that's irrelevant for this situation.

I wonder if they changed the location due to having it fail rather than them adding VVT. VVT isn't really going to take up a lot of engine space . Best bet is to just trace the evap lines.

Sounds like one of those running changes? The JTIS stops at 2004 for the S Type and I guess you need the 2006 information.

Maybe worth signing up for the Jaguar pay stuff? I think it's called Topix?

Just realized I never sent out my findings. The purge valve is still under the hood of the 2006 and up. It's just not attached to the canister as in the previous models because of the multiple failures of the canisters mentioned by QuartzSTypeR.

You'll hear it ticking and it's up above the left valve cover. Part# XR849660

Can you say where it's located?
Not many 2006-2008 R's were made so we are lacking in repair info.

A picture is worth a 1000 words!
That explains it.
Well done.

Boy is your engine clean too.
Had you thought about adding the strut tower covers from the 2003 model?
Cleans up the engine compartment a bit. I added them to my 2005 STR.

The picture is of a 2007 STR, but mine is just as clean :-) My wife laughs at me because I detail the entire car including the engine bay and trunk.

I'll have to look into the strut tower covers.

Thanks

The seal should be at my house on Monday. Shouldn't be too bad to replace. If I run across anything out of the norm I'll post the fix.

Can one of you folks see if your vacuum valve is this loud (see youtube video below). My tank is half full, so I know it does it's self checks when the gas is between 1/4 and 3/4 full. It just seems loud to me. It starts clicking about four minutes after starting a cold motor and about 50 seconds after starting a warm motor.

Thanks for y'alls help.

From memory, I do think ours also sounds this loud. wife has car 99 percent of time. can check on the weekend when I get a chance.
I remember looking at it and thinking my fuel injectors were loud. exactly in this location.

Not many of us with 06 STR to compare too.
