Smile Parking brake stuck! 94 Jaguar XJS

I'm a newbie to the forum but I need help getting the parking brake unstuck. The actual lever works fine but it's stuck under the car somehow... My dad just passed the car down to me and I wanna get it fixed before summer ends if possible but no one in our small town of Somerset KY will work on it! Any help is much appreciated!!!

Did you know that to release the handbrake, you have to: depress the button; pull the lever up to take the tension off the cable still holding the button depressed; than lower the lever STILL holding in the button until the lever is back to the floor?

Sounds like my corner repair shop. XK8 timing chain replacement - rejected after 1 hour. V12 tune-up - rejected after 1 hour. Replacing the V12 cooling system - took them one week to even dare to touch the car. And then they did a great job.

Hi JagNewbie

It sounds as if the Handbrake Cable has stretched to its fullest extent, which seems to mean that you won't be able to pull

The Handbrake Lever up any higher than it is at the moment

Which you would need to be able to do before you can release it, in the way that 'Greg' described

When the Handbrake Cable starts to stretch to the point at which it its nearing its limit of Travel, that is an indication that the

Handbrake Cable needs adjusting

So that you still have some 'Pull up Travel' (Left in Reserve) which you would need to release it

In the event that this should be the case?

You may need to adjust the Handbrake, which is very easy to do (relatively speaking)

The Adjusting Rod (which is basically just a threaded rod) with a couple of 'lock nuts' is just behind the 'drivers seat' under a

Piece of carpet very close to the sill

The Photos will show you exactly where it is

So when you find it just undo the 'lock nut' and adjust it, so you've got some Tension on the Cable, which 'may' repeat 'may'

Just give you enough upward movement of the Handbrake Lever

To release it, although if not you may have to release it from under the Car

If you can manage to release it one way or another, if you adjust the Handbrake Cable then you may be ok from then on

Unless it has already been fully adjusted, in which case you may then need to get a new Handbrake Cable

Location of Handbrake Adjustment Rod behind the drivers seat very close to the sill where that Spanner is sticking up

Using 2 Spanners (The Same Size) undo the Locknut and then adjust the Rod which adjusts the Cable

Another View of the Adjusting Rod once you get that locknut undone adjusting the Handbrake Cable is a 'Breeze' (ish)

I consider myself a reasonably patient man but if the OP still has the handbrake problem some 4 years later while patiently waiting for advice/ fix he has me beat hands down.

Maybe the handbrake handle adjusting spanner was missing from the toolkit?
