Default Any differences between an OEM x308 supercharger from 1998 vs 2002?

Hey guys. I am looking for an x308 Eaton M112 supercharger to modify/rebuild. This will greatly reduce my down time, since I will just have to swap in the "new" unit for the "old" unit. It will also allow me to return my car to stock if I ever choose to do so, and using the original parts. But the only one that I can find in my price range is from 1998. Are there any differences between a unit from 1998 and a unit from 2002? Also, I would need to find a set of intercoolers to modify to go along with the supercharger. Are there any differences in those between model years? Thanks in advance

There are many available, have you checked on this site... Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market ...you can do it by year and even localize it. Not knowing your budget, I saw them from $200-800 doing a nationwide search.

According to the parts catalog there are 2 options for the 4.0 liter supercharger VIN's up to 878717all use the same supercharger. Then from VIIN's 878718 onward use a different supercharger. Parts catalogs don't give info for the difference.
You just need to make sure the one you are getting is in the same VIN range as your existing.

The major Jaguar breaker in the UK (Auto Reserve Parts) sells the X308 superchargers as for 1997-2002 so they all appear to be the same although they came under four different Jaguar part numbers.

If you look at this page it provides the part numbers. If you select for each VIN option you'll see that the superseding part numbers end up the same for any model year.

I hope the link works.

Thanks guys Do any of you happen to know what the differences are between the supercharger variants?
I found a complete set (supercharger, outlet cap, and both intercoolers) for a great price, but it's for an '03.

I forgot about that site! Thank you I was looking to spend $400 or less for the supercharger and intercoolers. The one that I was looking at yesterday had a starting bid of $200, but it has a broken rear mounting tab that would need to be repaired.

Dear gents,

I can't tell about the reasons why there are four different revisions of the supercharger. Since the mounting brackets and points remained exactly the same over the model years I just can think of minor details which were altered.

But when you're at it then I'd suggest to get a Gen V Eaton M112 from the 4.2 SC engines (S-Type, x350 XJR, 4.2 XKR) as their bearings had been improved over the Gen IV blowers of our cars. This improved the bearings longevity drastically.
It's a out-of-the-box fit - no need to adjust and/or alter anything. Just plug and play - same bolts, same mounting points, same pulley, same dimensions etc. The only thing you need to buy is the gasket between supercharger and the intake air elbow from the 4.2L engines (part no. AJ83292).

I can point you to the thread where I had done some pictures of that upgrade, if you're considering this upgrade.

Interesting. I didn't realize that the 4.0/4.2 units had identical cases. I wouldn't mind seeing those pictures. Thank you

Yes, they do share the same dimensions etc. That's the reason why in my mind this upgrade is a No-Brainer. See https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...engine-176755/ for more details (post #9).

Even if I worried a bit about the slightly thicker new gasket there had been no issues when fitting the intake elbow to its brackets. And the "offset" of 1 or 2 mm doesn't have any impact on the EGR-valve's or throttle body's position either.

Do a quick search around the forum and you'll find some more people which have done it. I didn't refurb the entire blower - I just replaced the coupler and the oil - that's it.

I have driven 20k miles with this setup so far - works like a charm!

In terms of originality I'm quite relentless, but I'm always looking for some useful and sustainable (and reversible) upgrades which help to prolong the engine's life a bit. E.g. the intercooler pump upgrade with the higher flow Bosch 010 version - helps to keep the hot engine cool :-)

Cheers, Alexander
