Default Brake Pads

I promise I have searched. But cannot find anything.

What is the most common brake pad used by Jag Owners here in the UK?

Am, going to do a Brake Disc/Pad/Fluid Change next week after picking up my car, but looked on Eurocarparts and some with sensors some without, so after some direction on which ones to order.

Thanks

Peter,

Unless you have already had the opportunity to examine the condition of the brake components, I would wait until getting the vehicle before splashing out on a complete set of parts.

A fluid flush is a good plan and pad replacement if they are below half thickness but the discs may not need changing.

Expressing a preference on brake pad manufacturer is likely to cause nearly as much controversy as an oil debate! Nevertheless, I generally use Ferodo on standard braking systems but did use Brembo on my last XK8 which was fitted with the optional Brembo brakes.

I've just fitted a set of Bosch to the rear of my XK out of curiosity. They are marketing very aggressively and prices are rock bottom. So far performance is as good as the OE Jaguar that they replaced (my XK has a full main dealer service history, hence the Jaguar pads) but I'll be interested to see how they are for wear rate and dust.

Good advice per Graham above Peter....

I had mine in today for some work and also had rear pads replaced ( used Pagid ) as supplied by the Indy.

Also fitted them on to my VW Passat some time ago and had no issues, just good brakes.

Thanks guys, will stick to the fluid pad change for now, maybe the discs just need to be scrubbed by the pads to brighten them up.

Light surface rust is normal if the car has stood after washing. It disappears with the first application of the brakes.

Heavy Scoring or pitting is not acceptable as both reduce the surface area of pad to disc contact and consequently reduce braking efficiency.

Here is the JTIS specification for the X-Type which will help you assess wear on pads and discs:

I'm always surprised Jaguar quote such a low minimum thickness for pads. I change them when they get below 5mm.

I asked a similar question awhile ago Peter regarding disc pads. I didn't ignore the majority vote for Akebono pads.

My brakes were pretty average so I changed the fluid and replaced the discs and fitted Akebono pads brought from FCP (USA) Surprisingly the disc rotors were not expensive for my X308. All up I spent $500aud ish.
Now it stops so quick the headlights fall out..

Bought my X-Type knowing that the front discs were knackered and replaced them in the first week.
I fitted Apec discs & pads. I've used these for years with good results. Never had them warp and the performance is good. Cost was £63 for the lot!

I have EBC Redstuff pads on the rear of my XKR. I know they're the rears but I did notice a little improvement in initial bite and general braking force and they make less dust than the OEM ones I have on the front. I'll be putting them on the front too when the time comes. Price was pretty reasonable too I thought, under £70 for the set.
